Minutes of the Meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee of the University held on
10-09-2013 at 4:30 p.m. at Committee Room No-I.

The meeting was presided over by Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor.
The Committee members noted the following:1. Report of the Enquiry Committee, constituted by the Vice-Chancellor on
26/8/2013, on the incident of alleged ragging of Shri Pritam Subba, a student of
Department of Information Technology, UG-II (Roll No. 001211001046) and
boarder of Salt Lake Campus Students’ Hostel of Jadavpur University.
2. UGC Regulations on curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational
Institutions, 2009.
3. Members expressed their views for punishment to the guilty students ranging from
expulsion from the university permanently to Rustication from the institution for
few semesters.
4. AGS, FETSU, Salt Lake Campus expressed his opinion for hostel expulsion only
to the guilty students.
5. Pritam Subba’s act of keeping freshers illegally should be noted and University
should take proper action against him.
6. Siddhanta Gupta noted that through such punishments a clear message should be
sent to all those involved in illegal activities.
The Committee resolved the following:(A) The Report of The Enquiry Committee on the incident of alleged ragging of Pritam
Subba, a student of the Department of Information Technology, UG-II (Roll No.
001211001046) be and is hereby accepted.
(B) The Anti-Ragging Committee decided to award the following punishments to those
found guilty of ragging.
1. Shri. Anupam Ghosh (Construction Engg., UG-IV, Roll No. 001010601015)
(a) Expulsion from the hostel permanently.
(b) Rustication from the institution for a period of two semesters (including the
current semester), i.e. Semester 1 and 2 of 2013-14 session.
2. Shri. Manik Halder (Printing Engg., UG-IV, Roll No. 001011601006)
(a) Expulsion from the hostel permanently.
(b) Rustication from the institution for a period of one semester (this means
semester 1 of 2013-14 session).
The General Secretary, FETSU, wished to record his note of dissent to the above
decision. He was of the opinion that no punishment should have been awarded to Shri
Anupam Ghosh & Shri Manik Halder.
The meeting ended with thanks to the Chair.
