Project Management
I have more than nine years of experience in project management. Have taken
many projects from scratch and finished these successfully. I have a good
team lead experience.
UNIX Systems Administration:
More than eleven years of experience in administration of different
flavours of UNIX like SCO UNIX, AIX ( HACMP clusters), Linux,
FreeBSD and SUN Solaris. I have worked with SUN Solaris versions 5, 6,
7and 8 with hardware platforms from Ultra 5, E420, E6000 to E10K (
StarFire). Disks arrays like T3 AND A5200 etc. Also worked with
Clustered RISC 6000, AIX base Systems. Setting up of network, Web
servers, ftp servers, DNS, Sendmail, security applications, NFS, PPP,
Oracle, etc. I am a Tekmetrics Certified UNIX Systems Administrator
also preparing for Solaris Certified Systems Administration. Good
working experience of Capacity planning and performance tuning of
UNIX systems.

Networking (LAN/WAN):
I have complete understanding of OSI model and other protocols. Designing
and implementing Local Area and Wide Area Networks. 3COM, Cisco routers,
switches, hubs, terminal servers, PPP, ISDN, E1 radio and fiber links, 3COM
transcend ( HP Openview ) network management software. Designed,
installed and administered one of the major networks ( Paktel Data network )
in Pakistan. Secured the networks for NEIS Pty Ltd Australia and Accessonline
Pty Ltd. Australia with router access lists and firewall configurations.
Server/Network Security:
Setting up of firewalls, Access-lists on routers, security applications like tripwire, tcp_wrappers, SSH and using other techniques to secure networks and
servers.
Novell Netware:
Six years of experience on Netware server setup and administration. I am a
CNE and CNA. Have a good knowledge and experience of NDS.

Current
Working with Micronet Broadband (Pvt.) Ltd. As Deputy Manager
Operations. We are developing ADSL Services to be provided to customers
soon. My responsibility is to setup and look after Systems and Network.
Mar 2001 to Jan 2002
Worked with Qantas Airlines Australia as Senior UNIX Systems
Administrator. Working in a team of about fifteen Systems Administrators.
Looking after SUN Solaris Servers of different Sizes. These systems are from
Ultra 5 to Ultra Enterprise 10000 (E10K, Starfire). Solstice DiskSuite,
Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Netbackup, Oracle etc. Apart from day to
day systems administration and new installations, also responsible for Solaris
6 to Solaris 8 upgrade project. In this project all the SUN systems ( more than
300 ) were to be upgraded from Solaris 6 to Solaris 8. Lots of experience in
SUN high end machines like E10k, E6000, E4800 and Disk Arrays etc.
Sept 2000 to Dec.
Worked as Test analyst/system administrator with Equity Systems
Limited a Reuters Ltd. software company. My task was to write the
performance test strategies for their system being developed on
Solaris systems. Identification, set up of performance test tools and
performance testing of these systems. Helping Software developers
with their UNIX related problems.
April to August 2000
Worked as a Network Specialist with Accessonline Pty. Ltd.
Australia. My duties were to secure the connectivity of their network
with Internet. Configuration and management of their DNS, Sendmail
and Apache web servers. UNIX and Windows NT servers are being
used for these services and Cisco routers for WAN connectivity.
Securing the network by designing and setting up security
applications, access-lists and firewalls etc was one of the major tasks
apart from stream lining of day to day Systems Administration.
April 1999 to March. 2000 Worked as Senior Systems Administrator with NEIS Pty Ltd.
Australia. NEIS is an e-commerce company and provides web based
application services to its customers. My responsibilities were to
administer Solaris 5, 6, 7 and Windows NT based web servers, Cisco
routers, DNS server and Firewall1 firewall system. Setup and
configuration of new servers, routers, applications and writing shell
scripts were my major tasks. All production environment was setup on
SUN Solaris servers.
June 1994 to Feb. 1999
Worked as Senior Manager Technical Services Corporate in PAKTEL
limited, Pakistan, which is the largest cellular phone company in Pakistan.
My responsibilities were to procure computer and data network equipment
and manage new computer system installations in Paktel’s new offices,
Problem solving in systems installed corporate-wide. PAKTEL is using
UNIX based systems for MIS and billing systems. Netware 4.1 servers for
E.mail and other office automation needs while Windows NT servers for
Window terminals and Internet connectivity. I also worked on the design,
implementation and maintenance of LANs in each office and a Wide Area
Network being used for interconnection of all LANs and centralization of the
MIS and billing system. Central Oracle DataBase administration is also my
responsibility. I started Technical Services department alone and now have
developed a team of more than fifteen people.
Oct. 1991 to May 1994
Worked as Country Coordinator Networks and Manager Support in Saigol
Computers (pvt.) Ltd. My duty was to solve hardware/software problems in
UNIX based systems, installed by our company through out Pakistan. One of
major responsibilities was the installation of systems in new branches and
problem handling in all UNION BANK branches countrywide. I also worked
on the LAN problems, especially Novell Netware. A major project during this
period was to connect all the Systems in all the branches of UNION Bank,
country wide and automate the money transfers between branches.

Worked as Systems Engineer, at Aman's Center of Excellence, a division of
Saigol Computers (Pvt.) Ltd., projects including hardware and software

period.

Hardware/Software development Projects

System Backup and administration scripts for NEIS Pty. Ltd, www.e-portfoilo.com.au server.

Laser Intensity Profile Detector at Optical labs, PINSTECH. This project, required for my Msc., was
to design a device with which the intensity at different points in a LASER beam can be measured.

IBM PC Conversion to Spectrum Analyzer at Central Telecommunication Research Labs ( CTRL ),
Islamabad.

Telex Card (ATC-90) for IBM PC at Aman's Center of Excellence. The project was a finished product.
The hardware was minimum, just to provide signal conversion from high voltages to TTL level and
vise versa and an interface. Most of the control was in software. Software was a blend of "C"
language and 8086 assembly language. Final PCB design was also done by me.

Designing of PABX (3+20 lines) at Aman's Center of Excellence. I did hardware design and major
portions of software design, in Z-80 assembler.
Major fields of experience
1- Systems Administration
System administration, systems capacity planning and performance management has
remained a major portion of my JD. I have a good experience of administering UNIX
systems ( SCO, AIX, SUN Solaris, Linux and FreeBSD ) and have trained many systems
administrators. Major systems administered were IBM RS6000, J-40 HACMP and SUN
E450. I have a good script writing experience in Shell and Perl for UNIX environment.
Have working experience of Novell Netware and Microsoft NT system administration. I
have administered many Novell Netware 4.1 servers being used in Paktel Limited country
wide, used as mail ( MS Mail) and print servers. I have also administered many Windows
NT 3.51 and 4.0 servers being used as Winterm servers, MS Exchange E. Mail servers
and Proxy servers.
2- Computer Networking
I have a vast experience of LAN cabling and network implementation. I installed many
networks during my tenure in Saigol Computers. Some installations were done in UN,
UNICEF Islamabad, First ten branches of UNION Bank. The Cabling types were
10BaseT, 10Base2 and Token Ring.
I designed, implemented and maintained the complete LAN/WAN for Paktel Limited
connecting its offices in more than twenty different cities of Pakistan. This network
includes LANs in each of Paktel's offices containing 3COM hubs and switches, connected
together by WAN using 3COM and CISCO routers, NewBridge MUXs, PTC Optical
Fiber links and Cylink/DTS radio links. This network has SCO UNIX, AIX, SUN Solaris,
Novell Netware 4.1 and NT servers in it communicating using TCP/IP and IPX protocols.
3- Router and Switch Configurations
Paktel’s complete LAN/WAN setup was done by me, so I am well versed with 3COM and
CISCO switch and router configurations for IP and IPX. Routing and interfacing
problems of routers with radios and MUX equipment etc. I have got advanced router
configuration trainings from 3COM Singapore and 3COM Transcend Enterprise training
from 3COM Malaysia.
I have used a variety of 3COM and Cisco hubs and switches in network
implementations.
4- Management Experience
Worked as Manager Support in Saigol Computers, managing first level support for
Islamabad clients and second level support country-wide with a team of ten engineers.
Managed computerization of first ten branches of UNION Bank, which included cabling,
installation and support to these branches countrywide. Each of these branches has SCO
UNIX hosts with five to thirty terminals and printers connected.
I joined Paktel Limited, the largest cellular phone company of Pakistan as Manager
Technical Services then promoted to Senior Manager Technical Service Corporate
and as number two in Information Services department of Paktel Limited. I was
responsible for computer hardware/ system software and data network of more than
twenty offices of Paktel countrywide plus database administration of Paktel’s centralized
Oracle database. I had a team of more than fifteen technical services engineers. I also
managed the IS department in absence of NMIS.
5- Teaching Experience

A nine month course Digital Data Communications for system engineers of Saigol
Computers Limited. This course was based on detailed study of OSI seven layered model
and different protocols used for data communications.

