Name of Institution: University of Leeds This Progression Agreement will commence in September 2010. This Progression Agreement is initially agreed for a 3 year period. This Progression Agreement will be evaluated by both parties, annually in July of each year. 1. Course/Programme Entry Criteria Required element: BTEC National Diploma Civil Engineering Students must pass the National Diploma with an overall grade of DDD (360 UCAS tariff points) from the 18 units completed for the National Diploma. The student also requires a distinction in the Further Maths module and a GCSE in English at grade C or equivalent. Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering Students must pass the HNC Civil Engineering and must cover the first Year University of Leeds modules to be able to enter the second year. Advanced Diploma in Construction & Built Environment Students must achieve an overall grade B with either a Maths A2 at grade B or OCR Level 3 Maths for Engineering at grade B. 2. Guaranteed interview or review of learner’s transcript/portfolio, or place Required element: All prospective students will be guaranteed an informal interview via the Faculty of Engineering University of Leeds. Additional element: Students must apply by the UCAS deadline. 1 PAT – V4 3. Application Process Required elements: Full time applications will be made via UCAS. Additional elements: Unsuccessful applicants will be notified. 4. Understanding HE Additional element: Month September (1st Year) October (1st Year) October – June (1st Year) May (1st Year) June – September October (2nd Year) November (2nd Year) Activity LCB to deliver induction session to include information, advice and guidance on progression opportunities, studying at HE level and financing HE studies. LCB to deliver a Careers tutorial and how to complete the UCAS form and compile a personal statement. Each semester LCB will hold a tutorial review and research session to discuss higher education and progression linked to the development of an Individual Learning Plan. University of Leeds to visit LCB 1st years and introduce the University and potential courses. (A taster day at the university could also be arranged as an alternative.) University of Leeds Open Days. University of Leeds to visit LCB and recap on courses and choices in time for UCAS application. LCB to hold one-to-one discussions on completion of applications and personal statements. Careers and progression discussions with students and parents. Finalise UCAS forms and enter on UCAS system. 5. Personal Career and Development Planning Required elements: Students will be able to discuss the Progression Agreement and the range of progression routes within their Individual Learning Plan as part of their one-to-one tutorial and research sessions during the two year course programme at least once per semester. The information on the financial support will be provided to students by the student services team during the two year programme at least once per semester. A programme of induction and support will be available to learners during the first year of study on their new course through the tutorial sessions during the Degree programme at least once per semester. Additional element: A programme of IAG activities is shown below which supports the potential progressing students in managing the application and selection processes involved in accessing the next level of study. 2 PAT – V4 Month September (1st Year) October - June October - June Activity Induction session to include information, advice and guidance on progression opportunities. Termly tutorial review and research sessions to discuss progression linked to the development of an Individual Learning Plan. Student Services team offering information, advice and guidance sessions on options available for progression to HE. 6. Curriculum Planning and Development Activities Month Activity July (1st Year) HE Annual Planning Event attended by LCB staff team to review curriculum development, modifications and any actions arising from learner voice, employer feedback and external examiner reports. Quality Course Review and Faculty SAR to refer to the Progression Agreement and reflect on matters arising from implementation. 16-19 Prospectus & HE Prospectus & Programme Specifications finalised. University and college staff to confirm any professional, academic or institutional changes that may affect course provision. Bi-annual Review Events to identify any actions required arising from student perception of course and inductions that link to progression and the progression agreements. July - October (2nd Year) November & May (2nd Year) 7. Publicising the Progression Agreement Required element: Information, Advice and Guidance sessions will be delivered as part of the tutorial process including information about the progression agreement throughout the duration of the three courses. The Progression Agreement will be contained within the VLE on-line version of the three course handbooks. Details of the Progression Agreement will also be publicised on the Leeds College of Building, University of Leeds and WYLLN websites. 8. Modification or Termination of the Progression Agreement Required elements: The Progression Agreement may only be modified or terminated at the Annual Planning Event and changes will not apply to students already studying on the three courses. The Progression Agreement will be contained within the Course Handbooks. Students will be notified of any changes which occur after the publication of the course handbook through the course notice board and the tutorial programme. 3 PAT – V4 9. Review of the Progression Agreement Required element: This Progression Agreement will be jointly reviewed by the University and College teams on an annual basis.
