How to set paper size for a poster
Whether you use Illustrator or PowerPoint, Mac or Windows, your document size needs to be set in
two different places: once to lay out the document, and again to tell the printer what size paper to
use.
Illustrator CS - Windows XP
PowerPoint 2003 - Windows XP
File > Document Setup:
 Size: Custom
 Units: Inches
 Width/Height: Enter values
File > Page Setup
 Width/Height: Enter values
File > Print:
 Printer: \\BOMBAY\BIH209PLOTTER
 Media - Size: Custom
 Width/Height: Enter same values as in
Document Setup
Illustrator CS – MacOS
File > Print
 Name: \\BOMBAY\BIH209PLOTTER
 Properties button
 Orientation: Portrait or Landscape
 Advanced... button
o Paper Size: PostScript Custom
Page Size
o Width/Height: Enter same values
as in Page Setup
o Paper Feed Direction: usually
"Short Edge First" -- but if the
longest dimension of your poster
is <42 inches, you can set this to
"Long Edge First" to save paper.
PowerPoint 2008 - MacOS
File > Page Setup
1. Set document size
 Width/Height: Enter values
 Orientation: Select appropriate icon
2. Set print size
 Options... button
 Format for: (Bi Hall plotter)
 Paper Size: Manage Custom Sizes...
o + to add new size
o Double-click "Untitled" to give
size a name
o Width/Height: Enter same values
as in Page
 Paper Size: Select custom size you just
created
 Orientation: Select appropriate icon
