SETON HALL UNIVERSITY’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions has issued an invitation to all Juniors
to start thinking about their college plans for next year. Four “Just Juniors” days are planned for Friday,
April 19, 29, May 6 and May 13th and include panel discussions with current students, Admissions Counselors,
Seton Hall Professors, Freshman Studies representatives and Financial Aid Counselors. Q & A sessions follow,

ESSEX COUNTY YOUTH SERVICES EXPO!!! SAVE THE DATE!!! Thursday, May 12, 2011 – 10 am
to 3 pm. Essex County College – Gymnasium – 303 University Avenue, Newark, NJ 07102. If you are
between the ages of 16 to 25, please come and take advantage of the opportunities of meeting with
prospective employers and receive valuable information related to Education, Social Programs and

STUDENTS…Need help preparing your taxes, your FAFSA forms or general financial assistance?
Newark Now offers free tax preparation to individuals with an income of less than $25, 000 and
families with income less than $55,000. Contact them at 973-624-3733.
Anyone interested in a “sweet” community service opportunity? The Presby Iris Garden in
Mountainside Park is looking for volunteers May 5 – June 5 to help with their gardens. If

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS!! The High School Academic Support Program will
be 50 Hayes Street, Newark for high school juniors and seniors. SAT Math Preparation (5-6 pm) Critical
Reading/Essay Writing (6-7pm) and Assistance with completing college/scholarship applications, FAFSA,
personal statements, (7-7:30 pm conducting SAT Prep Sessions on Wednesdays, from now until May 4th from
5-7:30 pm at the Springfield Branch Library,)
SUMMER PROGRAM

The Accounting Career Awareness Program in New Jersey is a high school residency program
sponsored by the Northern NJ Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants. The program
will be offered again this summer at Rutgers University, Newark Campus from Sunday, June 26th
through Friday, July 1, 2011. Students must have completed the 9th, 10th or 11th grade, having a C
grade average of better and completed the application. Go to the Guidance Center or your Team office
to pick up an official application. The deadline for the program is April 27, 2011.

Kiddie Keep Well Camp has announced summer job opportunities for students who will be
18 years old by June 29th. For more information, check your Team office or the Guidance Center,

Camp College will take place again this year on the campuses of Monmouth University and Brookdale
Community College on July 19 & 20. Camp College is a two-day program for rising high school seniors
who lack the resources they might need to find the best college matches and successfully complete the
application process. This includes students who are low-income and/or have parents who did not
attend college. See the brochure in your Team office for more information about the program.

THE RICHARD STOCKTON COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY is offering SUMMER FORENSICS CAMP for high
school students. Please see the poster in your Team office regarding camp dates. For further information,

RENA’S PROMISE INTERNATIONAL CREATIVE WRITING CAMP –is a one week intensive writing
program for young people between the ages of 14-17 held on Shelter Island, NY between July2-8. The
cost is $840.00 for residency (including a $100 Merit Scholarship), $440 for a day student (also
including $100 Merit Scholarship, lunch and cookout). Full and partial scholarships are available. The

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Montclair Chapter of Drifters, Incorporated invites African American graduating seniors who plan to
attend college to submit an application for scholarship on or before May 11, 2011. Go to your Team Office or
the Guidance Center for applications.

The Northern New Jersey Chapter of National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives is
awarding scholarships to eligible graduating High School Seniors who will graduate in June, 2011 and plan to
attend college in the fall. The application must include a college acceptance letter, an essay, transcript with
verification of GPA form. Candidates must be available for an interview on May 21, 201. You can pick up an
application in your Team Office of the Guidance Center. The application must be postmarked or e-mailed
no later than May 9, 2011.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Eta Pi Chapter ‘s Governour Brown Memorial Scholarship will be
awarded to African American males with minimum GPA’s of 3.0 who will be matriculating in a
baccalaureate program in an institution of higher learning. For other requirements, go to the Guidance
Center or your Team office for a copy of the information sheet and application. The due date is April 30,
2011.

The Thornton Sisters Foundation,Inc. is once again providing one or more one-year
scholarships to deserving young females of color. Qualified students must be female, of color
(African-American, Latino-American, Caribbean-America, Native American, etc), have a GPA of C+
or better. Additional application requirements do apply. See your Guidance Office or the
Guidance Center for an official application. Completed applications must be postmarked no later
than May 7, 2011.

The Official 2011 FISCA Scholarship Application is now available for any college-bound senior. The
application form must be completed, along with an essay and submitted with an official mid-year transcript
and two letters of recommendation. For a copy of the application, go to the Guidance Center or your Team
office.

The Keith Hightower Scholarship for 2011 will be awarded to a qualified senior who has participated in
science or math competitions or participated in independent scientific research during their high school
careers. The application can be found in your Team office or the Guidance Center. Your application must
be postmarked no later than May 16, 2011.

The 24th Annual African American Arts and Heritage Festival announces “The Annual
Scholarship” for high school seniors. The deadline for the application is May 10, 2011. Contact

The Larry C. Schumacher, Sr. Student Athlete Scholarship Fund has been established in the name of
well-known coach, legendary athlete and youth advocate, Larry C. Schumacher, honoring his legacy
of advancing the educational aspirations of student athlete, both male and female. The Fund
Trustees and Advisory Board are pleased to announce that they will be awarding two scholarships of
$1,000 each to two high school seniors seeking to further their educations.
Qualified students will have GPA’s between 2.5 and 4.0, must provide recommendations from their
Varsity Head Coach, and/or Athletic Director, two teachers and at least one recommendation from a
community representative from the community service project they participated in (Key Club
and/or National Honor Society memberships preclude this requirement) and an essay of no less
than 100 words, expressing shy this scholarship is important to them. An interview is also
required. The application form is available in the Guidance Center of Team Offices. The deadline
is May 1, 2011.

The Northern New Jersey Chapter if the National Kitchen and Bath Association are pleased to
announce that they will be awarding three (3) $1,500 Scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Interested students are asked to submit an essay on the subject “Why do I want to be a designer”.
Applications can be found in your Guidance Office or in the Guidance Center. The deadline for application
is May 1, 2011.
Will To Win Scholarships will be awarded to two deserving high school seniors with asthma in each of the
following five categories: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Community Service, Athletics, Science. For
additional information, please go to your Team office or the Guidance Center. Deadline is April 30, 2011.

The North Essex Post 146 of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA is pleased to announce that it will be
awarding 2 educational grants from the Bob Daniels Memorial Educational Fund. Applicants must be direct
linear descendants of a member in good-standing of the Jewish War Veterans who belongs to a New Jersey
post of the JWV. Applications can be found in your Team Office or the Guidance Center. All applications
must be received by 5:00 pm May 6, 2011.

Tekmark Global Solutions, LLC will be offering two $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors
That plan on attending Rutgers University or Rider University who intend to major in
Engineering/Engineering Technology, Computer Science/MIS or
Telecommunications/Information Technology. The application is available online to

The Jon M. Pritsch Scholarship is being offered to a high school student who is on their high
school golf team, plans to pursue a career in a golf-related field and will be attending an accredited

undergraduate college or university in the fall. The application can be picked up in the Guidance
Center or from your Team office. The deadline is May 25, 2011.

The Institute of Culinary Education announces the formation of the ICE Kevin Nurse Memorial
Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to one student annually who has overcome medical
hardship and demonstrated enthusiasm for food and culinary education. $10,000 is awarded as
tuition discount for students enrolling in ICE’s Culinary Arts of Pastry & Baking Programs or a
$5,000 scholarship if enrolling is ICE’s Culinary Management or Hospitality Management Programs.

The Jewish Vocational Service administers a Scholarship Loan Program for Jewish residents.
Annual interest-free loans of up to $5,000may be granted to eligible candidates. Please contact

2011.

Patricia Spikes Scholarship is open to African-American high school seniors with a 3.0 or higher
GPA. Details and application forms are in your Team office and the Guidance Center. The
application deadline is May 1, 2011.

Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship – This $5,000 scholarship is open to students currently enrolled
as high school or first-year college students. To be eligible for this award you must be under 25
and answer both of the essay questions. Deadline: April 30, 2011. Go to website –

Dial My Dentist Scholarship Program - $1,000 scholarship is available to students between the
ages of 16 and 21. In the fall of this year (Sept. 2011) the student must be attending college or

S.S. Scholarship Program – This $1,000 scholarship is available to any student that is 21 years or

under 1,000 words and are currently in high school or in their first two years of

2011 ICBC Scholarship - $1,000 scholarship is open to students that are between the ages of 1721 that are residents of the US or Canada. A student can be enrolled or intending on enrolling in
any course of study in the fall semester of 2011. Deadline: June 15, 2011. Website:

Berkeley College is offering DECA scholarships for qualified students in the amount of up to
$6,000 which may be renewable on an annual basis. Students must first be accepted to Berkeley
College to be considered for the DECA scholarships. The deadline for applying is June 1, 2011.

 PATRIOT’S PATH COUNCIL – BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA is offering two (2) scholarships for
students in New Jersey.
The Frank D. Visceglia Memorial Scholarship (applicant must be an Eagle Scout)
The Bruce A. Black Memorial Scholarship (applicant must be an Eagle Scout)

High School Seniors are invited to enter the Verizon Wireless/UNCF Black History Month Essay
Contest. Submit an essay about how the evolution of wireless technology has changed the world
for a chance to win up to $5,000 toward college tuition. For details, go to uncf.org.

Katherine Marcotte Scholarship is awarded by the Montclair Education Association to a
graduating MHS Senior who has shown an interest in pursuing a career in the field of education.
The application can be picked up in the Guidance Center or your Team Office. The application
deadline is April 30, 2011.

The Hickory Tree Chorus, Sweet Adelines International is pleased to offer its annual $1,000
Scholarship to a young woman graduate who intends to pursue a career in music. This
scholarship will be given to a student selected on the basis of her application and her vocal
musical talent. Applications are available in the Guidance Center and in Team offices. Each
student should complete the application and submit a CD which should include at least two (2)
Vocal performances, demonstrating her particular talent. Both application and CD should be
received by April 24, 2011.

The Helen Hansen Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, sponsored by Union-Essex
Legal Professionals Association, is now available to any student who is a resident of Union County
or Essex County and is graduating from high school, is graduating from high school or already
enrolled in college and is a Legal Secretarial student, Criminal Justice or Law major. Go to your
Team or Guidance Office for applications.

The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of New Jersey is allowing MHS to nominate ONE
student for a $1,500 scholarship consideration. Eligible candidates are high school seniors seeking to
pursue a career related to US History. Financial need is NOT a factor. Successful candidates will be in the
top 25% of their senior class or have SAT I scores at above the 75th percentile. Recipients must enter a 4year college in New Jersey.

The Nora C. Iroka Scholarship Fund for students who want to pursue a career in any area of the fashion
industry. Applications and information are available in the Guidance Center. All applications must be
received by mail on or before April 21, 2011.

The Meyerhoff Scholars Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, is open to all high
achieving high school seniors who plan to pursue undergraduate studies in Science, Technology,

The purpose of the Seventy-fourth edition of The American League, High School Oratorical Scholarship
Program “A Constitutional Speech Contest” sponsored by The American Legion, is to develop a deeper
knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of the United States. Other objectives to be gained are
those of leadership, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparations for the
acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American Citizenship. Go to

The NJ Sharing Network Foundation in cooperation with Donate Life New Jersey and Gift of Life Donor
Program is pleased to announce the availability of a Benjamin R. Chirls Scholarship in the amount of
$3,000 ($1,500 per semester) for the 2011-2012 academic year. The scholarship recipient must be an
organ, tissue or eye donor, transplant recipient, donor family member or awareness advocate. The

The Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community advancement of AT&T will be awarding
five $1,800 Samsung/APCA and four $1,500 APCA scholarships to college-bound high school students. To
