Contact: Andrew Sherman, NYU SCPS 212 992-9103 NYU Taps Crisis Expert Dr. Michael Maurer For Business Continuity & Homeland Security Program New York, NY (August 27, 2004) – The New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies announced the hiring of crisis management expert Dr. Michael Maurer, as an instructor for its new, one-year intensive Business Continuity certificate program. The certificate program -- developed to train individuals to protect businesses in New York and around the world from terrorism and other potential disasters -- begins this fall. It offers courses in Emergency Response and Disaster, Impact Analysis, and Introduction to Business Continuity Planning, among others. Graduates of the program will be qualified for jobs in the emerging business continuity (or “risk management) field – in both the private and government sectors. “We are thrilled to add a top-flight crisis management expert such as Dr. Michael Maurer to our program,” said Howard Greenstein, Senior Director of Business and Legal Studies at NYU SCPS, and Coordinator of the Homeland Security programs. “He brings years of experience to us - not only as a crisis manager but also as an educator, therapist - and as a veteran of war.” Dr. Maurer is the founder of the Metropolitan College of New York’s (MCNY) Master of Public Administration in Emergency & Disaster Management Program. It was established in the wake of 9/11, when the national landscape changed forever, and an emphasis on security and crisis management was born. Dr. Maurer received Combat Medic Training from the U.S. Army Medical Training Center, as well Critical Infrastructure Orientation from the US Army National Guard. He served as a member of the DOD Contingency Team for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm for Mercer, Burlington, & Camden Counties of the NJ National Disaster Medical System Hospitals. In addition, Dr. Maurer has over 20 years of experience as individual, group and family therapist, has several years of teaching and public speaking experience; and he holds a D.
