Begs to inform the Gentlemen and Graziers of Cattle on Tweedside and the surrounding
district that he intends to offer for SALE at Cornhill, on Saturday 23rd of October current, at
Ten o’clock, Forenoon, 250 SHORT-HORNED STEERS and HEIFERS of different ages and
good quality.

FAT OX – A very large short-horn ox, bred and fed by Mr. Thos Smith of Goswick, has
been exhibited during the week in Mr. Kell’s yard in Bridge Street previous to being sent off
to London for exhibition before the Directors of the English Agricultural Society. The
animal is computed, according to measurement, to weigh 180 stones, exclusive of offal. He
is six years old in April ensuing, and has been three years feeding, and has never been stalled
nor in close keeping. His dimensions are as follows:- Height at shoulder 6 feet: from top of
shoulder to rump 6 feet 8 inches; girth, behind the shoulders, 10 feet 3 inches. He is to be
forwarded to London on Saturday by the Manchester. Mr. Smith has another animal, three
years old, which promises to equal this one, being at present supposed to weigh 100 stones.
He will very probably be an object of attraction at the Highland Society Show in autumn.

CHRISTMAS BEEF
WILLIAM WIGHTMAN, Butcher, Wooler and ALEXANDER WIGHTMAN, Butcher,
Belford beg to inform their numerous Customers and the Public generally that they have
purchased from Colonel Landers, Fenwick Steads, three very superior WEST KYLOES, 6
years old, two of which gained a premium at the late Highland Society’s Show at Berwick,
and calculated to weigh from 90 to 100 stones each - which they will offer for sale at their
respective shops in Belford on Tuesday 14th December, and at Wooler on Thursday the 16th
December, and at each of the above places on the first week of January 1842.

PRIZE BEEF - F. E. Batters begs to inform his friends and the public that he will slaughter
the two prize oxen, bred and fed by Thomas Laidler, Esq., Fenton, which gained the
sweepstake at Wooler Show on Thursday week. He will have ready for sale the carcase of
the one on Saturday 18th instant, and that of the other on Saturday 25th
