Personal computer hardware, operating systems, and application software are introduced in this course. Windows software will be used to illustrate disk organizations. The basic skills of word processing using MS WORD xx for Windows, spreadsheet and data base management software will illustrated with MS EXCEL xx and MS Access xx for Windows. This course will also cover a brief introduction how to create home page using HTML, as will as introduction to the Internet applications such as E-mail and web browsing. Mohammad Eyadat 1 Revised on 03/07/16 STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES The students will be able to: define and describe a computer as well as a basic Hardware and Software components and implementations of a digital computer. use the basic features of Windows environment (user task and windows applications). create and maintain basic and advance a Word document by using MS-word software. create and maintain basic and advance an electronic spreadsheet using Ms-Excel software and its various functions. create and maintain a database with its basic objects using MS Access. navigate through the Internet distinguish between different Internet applications, how it works and how it will be used. create and maintain a simple home page by using HTML. Note: Objectives related to each topic will be addressed at the beginning of each class. Course Expectations and Policies: Expectations Course Expectations: Each student is expected to read the assigned material and prepare the written assignments prior to class. The university standard for course workload is two hours of outside work for every hour in class, i.e., a 3-unit course requires 6 hours of work outside the classroom, or a total of 9 hrs/week. Attendance It is expected that students will attend class regularly and participate in the class discussion throughout the term. If you miss a meeting, it is your responsibility to obtain notes from a fellow student. Attendance and class participation will be used in the final determination of grades and can alter your grade up or down. Students are allowed two excused absences.
