The following is a description of the job of the Recitation Instructor for Chemistry 1505
1) You and your coordinator will determine if you will need to attend lecture classes. If
you are required to attend, you will attend all lecturers for one lecturer. Your
attendance to these lecturers will be mandatory. You and your recitation coordinator
will decide which lecture class you will attend.
2) You will require that your students fill out the Student Feedback form on my web
site.
3) You must be present in your classroom 10 minutes before the recitation begins.
During this time you will connect your computer to the OWL homework and verify
that all YSU student computers are ready for class.
To log into OWLv2 do the following:
 Your Coordinator will supply an access code to you.
 Go to my web site and click [lecture Classes], [Chem 1505…], [OWL Log
in].
 Enter your YSU e-mail address and password. Click [Assignments]
 Choose 5 or 6 problems to work from the Assignments available now.
After the recitation notify your recitation coordinator of unexpected situations.
4) Recitations must start and end on the scheduled time. You must plan your
presentation to last the entire allotted time. Each recitation class must begin with a 10
min student/instructor exchange of material to be covered in class. The selected
online OWL homework will be discussed and the students will be asked to work
problems online. You will then assist and answer their questions. The last 15
minutes students will be asked to explain their answers to online home work. At this
time you will seek discussion from your students to evaluate their understanding of
the homework. You will answer any other questions they may have about grades or
other issues.
5) You must be present 10 minutes after the scheduled ending of the recitation. During
this time, you will prepare the room for the next class and answer any lingering
questions that students may have.
6) All class must be covered. No classes are to be cancelled. If you need to miss a
class, you must find your own replacement. However, you are responsible for the
actions of your replacement. There are no exceptions.
7) After each lecture hour exam, you will evaluate how your recitation students did on
this exam. You will discuss this evaluation with your coordinator and make any
appropriate adjustments in the recitation class.
8) You are responsible to place final grades into Banner. You final grades are to be
discussed with your Recitation Coordinator.
9) Graded quizzes must be available to the students during the following/next class
period. You will answer all questions concerning the grading of quizzes.
10) Your Coordination grade and your future in the Chemistry Department at YSU will
be evaluated on how well you adhere to the above issues and what I and other faculty
members hear from your students. Take this seriously; your future depends on it.
