Call for Faculty Reviewers of Open Math Textbooks
The Community College Open Textbook Project is a new initiative by the Community
College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) to make free and
open textbooks more available to community college faculty and students. Background
on the Consortium is available at http://cccoer.wordpress.com
We seek qualified faculty reviewers for open math textbooks. If interested, please
contact the Project Director, Dr. Judy Baker, at bakerjudy@foothill.edu or (650) 9497749.

Faculty Eligibility
Qualified faculty reviewers are those who have taught a math course at the college level
prior to the review. Qualified faculty can review just one or more chapters of their
choice. We also seek feedback, via online questionnaires, from faculty who adopt open
math textbooks for use in a community college statistics course. Reviewers serve on a
voluntary basis and will not be compensated.
Review Criteria
For each chapter of the textbook, reviewers will provide feedback and ratings of the
textbook in term of the following criteria:

Clarity and comprehensibility of content, including the instructions and exercises

Accuracy and Content errors - the presence or absence of factual errors,
grammatical errors, and typographical errors in the content

Readability - in terms of logic and flow

Consistency - consistency in the content language and use of key terms as is
necessary to facilitate understanding by novice users

Appropriateness of content - appropriateness of the material for community
college level courses

Interface - technological issues such as broken links, improperly displayed
graphics, and ease of navigation

Content usefulness - the ways in which the content could be useful for teachers,
students, and those with a general interest in the subject area

Modularity - the ability to adapt, rearrange, add, delete and modify the content by
sections

Reading level - appropriate for community college level students

Cultural relevance - use of examples that are inclusive of diverse races and
ethnicity
