Always refer to the postsecondary institution’s website, however, for specifics. Registrars Handbook for School Administrators, Secondary Level Courses and Prerequisite Requirements, Request for High School Transcripts 20112012 versions have been update and can be found at: http://www.education.gov.sk.ca/registrarshandbook. This is very useful information for you in your role as Career Counsellors. Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) has updated their Student Contract, requiring students to submit their Ministry of Education ID number. Also starting this year, SYA will only send out passports once contracts have been received by their office. This is a fabulous program for your students (much different than Apprenticeship Credits). CAREER DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Sept 2011 Spend-a-Days: This is the time for Spend-a-Day opportunities. Because we offer the Career Fair every other year, it is not required to attend spend-a-days with students. That being said, students and parents can be made aware of the information as many spend-a-days offer sessions for students and parents and are worthwhile attending. If you deem there is a need for a group of students to attend, please discuss with me and we will go from there as proper forms would have to be filled out and approved at the division office. In addition, the trip would have to be funded somehow as we would not have access to the centralized budget. Student Awards: Is now available on Twitter and Facebook. Students can download the student awards app to an iPod Touch or iPhone. Student Awards – Early Entrance: Many colleges and universities offer early entrance awards to Grade 11 students based on conditional acceptance. Be sure to help students research options. Scholarships: o As scholarships come in, I will try to keep the website updated at cms.sunwestsd.ca/lewis. Teacher Professional SMART Goals: o Remember, we must submit Professional Smart Goals as do all other teachers. When planning yours this year, feel free to consider designing a SMART goal that is in line with our mission to use/add to/etc. our Career Development Wiki/Blog: o http://careerconnectors.wikispaces.com/ o http://careerconnectors.wordpress.com/ Here’s to a great year of working together to help students navigate their life/career journey and realize their dreams.
