TEACHER PROCEDURE
Activity Prior Knowledge / Focus
The students studied in last period the two types of cell - plant cell and animal
cellThey used a bowl of jelly (added different materials to demonstrate the animal
cell) and identify the parts of the animal cell.
- Show the students the flash card (the vocabulary items with picture) for the last
components of the cell. ( cell membrane- nucleus and cytoplasm)
- individual work: each student will get a worksheet to label the parts of the
animal cell picture that they studied the last time.
T. tells the students the objectives for this lesson. Today we are going to to
- do the experiment
- observe the plant cell under the microscope
- draw the plant cell under the microscope
- recognize the parts in the plant cell
- identify the scientific vocabulary items of the plant cell
Teacher Strategies:
T. tells the students that to achieve our objectives today we should follow the
procedures of the experiment and tell the students what the steps of the
experiment are and each students will have his materials to work.
Using the data show, the students will read the steps of the experiment:
- Experiment- onion epidermal cell – plant cell
- Demonstrate how to prepare the onion epidermal cell ( for the first time)
1- clean a microscope and the slide
2- place a drop of water
3- cut out the epidermal cell of the onion (T. will demonstrate
first)
4- place one edge of the cover slip against slide then lower it
gently onto slide.
Students activities
-Give each students the material they will use: (onion bulb, slide, cover slip,
dropper, food color, plastic knife ). There is one microscope for each 5 studets.
1- The students will do the experiment by them selves.
2- They will study their slides under the microscope.
3- Draw what they see on their journal.
- Ask the students to compare their slides with the sample one that done in the
beginning of the lesson.
- Ask the students to draw what the onion epidermal cell look like on their
drawing copybook again.
- The students will label the old component and the new components of the plant
cell. Cell wall and the chloroplast.
T. will check the slides then T. shows one prepared slide under the microscope
connected with the data show to the whole class to see the cell plant of the onion
and label the parts of the plant cell.
Lesson Extensions
Students draw a table to compare and classify the components under the
plant cell and animal cell.
Modifications\Differentiations
Differentiations: Visual
The students will observe and see what they prepared in the class.
Closure:
-T. asks the students to summarize the lesson
- T. restates the objectives.
- T. tells the students that tomorrow we are going to give examples of animal
and plant cells
Assessment:
Students will draw the onion epidermal cell and label the components of the
plant cell. Draw a table to compare and classify the components under the
plant cell and animal cell.
