Student Council Elections
2010
The Offices:
Students in fourth and fifth grade may run for the executive offices of Vice
President, Grizzly, Historian, Secretary, and Treasure. Only fifth grade students
may run for the office of President. The office of President is an individual office.
The other offices may be shared if two students want to run together as a team.
The office of “Grizzly” may be shared by three students.
President:
 attends ALL Student Council meetings.
 presides over the Student Council meetings.
 represents the school at school functions.
 meets at least once a month with the principal and/or Student Council
advisor to set the agendas and discuss student council activities.
Vice President:
 attends ALL Student Council meetings.
 runs the Student Council meeting in the absence of the President.
 represents the school at various school functions.
 shares the responsibility to be the chairperson of committees.
 is in charge of the Friday Ice Cream Sales.
Grizzly:
 attends ALL Student Council meetings.
 helps keep up the school spirit.
 leads the Guadalupe Cheer at school wide assemblies.
Historian:
 attends ALL Student Council meetings.
 attends the Student Council activities and takes pictures for a Student
Council scrapbook, displays, and slideshows.
Secretary:
 attends ALL Student Council meetings.
 takes notes at the meetings.
 writes letters or reads letters written to the Student Council.

keeps a binder with all of the agendas from the meetings and notes on any
vote taken at the meetings.
Treasurer:
 works with our Home and School Club to track Student Council funds.
 counts and deposits money from ice cream sales and other events prior to
the next meeting.
The Process:
Each student running for an executive office must complete a self nomination
form and have it signed by their parent, current teacher, and at least one other
school employee who knows them. The self nomination form is due at the precampaign meeting on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:45 a.m. in the library.
Students will have the weekend to complete their posters and bring them to
school on Monday. All posters must be checked and initialed by a staff member at
the check-in table before they can be posted.

Speeches returned to student for revision. Revised
speeches need to be approved.
Friday, October 15 1:00
Election Speech Assembly in the cafeteria followed by
the election in classrooms.

Parent Permission:
I give permission for my child ____________________ to run for Guadalupe
Student Council. I understand that Student Council meetings will take place
outside of the regular school day. (We are planning 7:30 a.m. on Thursdays once
a month, and if a second meeting is needed in a month, it may be at lunch time). I
also understand that my child will need to be responsible for any activity that
they commit to such as ice cream sales. It is the student’s responsibility to make
up any classroom work missed because of Student Council activities. I also
understand that my child will represent the school and must follow all school
rules. Behavior problems can result in forfeiting the position.
