ENDURANCE TRAINING LEADER (ETL) COURSE – HMS Nelson PT staff will be hosting an ETL
Course from the 04 – 08 Nov 13, all personnel who are interested must be P2, In date fitness test, in date

SEPTEMBER HEALTH PROMOTION – MAINTAIN A HEALTHY HEART - In the UK Heart Disease
is still the number one killer, accounting for approximately 25% of deaths each year. Their are a few things
you can do to maintain a healthy heart and ensure you don’t become a horrible statistic.
Exercise- You should be aiming to do at least 30 – 60 minutes exercise every day which raises your
heart rate above its normal level and get your blood pumping. For those of us who are not best friends with
exercise you don’t need to do all of this exercise at once. Breaking your exercise up into 10 minutes chunks
will also provide benefits of helping to maintain a healthy heart.
Diet - You need to make sure that in your diet you avoid foods which are high in saturated fat,
cholesterol and salt. Of course these are ok in moderation but should be avoided in large quantities. Eating
foods which are high in saturated fats will increase the risks of coronary artery disease and will also lead to
raised blood cholesterol levels.
Weight -The older we get the more likely the weight we put on will be fat rather than muscle. Excess
weight will likely contribute to conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure which are best avoided at
any age the key is maintaining a healthy diet and doing some regular exercise.

BOXERCISE CLASSES – Sail Loft Gymnasium will be conducting Boxercise classes every Thursday
from 1215-1300. This is open to all military personnel and LAF pass holders. All abilities are welcome to
attend and this activity will be a fantastic workout for all.

PORTSMOUTH COMMAND RUGBY - The Eastern Region are now actively recruiting for a new
team manager for the Portsmouth Command team. The commands will run in Jan 14 and will play games
against, Scotland, RM, Fleet Air Arm and Plymouth. If you are interested in the position contact POPT Shortt
via email DES NBCP-COB-POPT-SPORT.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS COURSE - The. Royal Navy School of Physical Training
(RNSPT) is pleased to announce course dates for the Physical Development (PDev) Officer Course for
2013. The PDev Officers Course is a 2 day briefing course conducted at the RNSPT, HMS Temeraire and is
open to any individual who is employed in their roll as the Establishment PT&RO or Ship / Unit Sports
Officer. The course covers all aspects of the PDev Agenda, namely Physical Education, Sport and
Adventurous Training, the 3 pillars of PDev. Course Dates are as follows:

ROUTINE NOTES 11.
FIT TO FIGHT WORKOUT - An extra Fit to Fight Workout is held every Friday afternoon between
1330 and 1430 in HMS Nelson Gym. This session is compulsory for personnel undertaking remedial
training however any personnel wishing to participate in extra training, including Sport, Functional Fitness
and organised activities are most welcome to attend.
