CRA Hot Rod Camp #13 … “It’s in the books!”

The four words often heard said at the end of the ninth inning of a baseball game; the fourth quarter of
a football game; or at the end of three periods in a pro hockey game…… “It’s in the books!” Regarding
this year’s CRA Hot Rod Camp #13, last week’s camp which was held in Mt. Sterling, OH at ‘Randy’s
Rod Shop’ is in the books! And in the pages of that book can be found some of the most exciting
testimonies from the young men who attended this year as “campers.”
While further down in this week’s CRA Moment you’ll read (and see actual pictures of this year’s
build…..should your computer so allow) but for now the most important information that’s in the book is
what is in the Book of Life.
The team of instructors (CRA Builder/Leaders) had decided to take on a huge endeavor for the “build”
of this year’s Ohio camp. A much sought after 1969 Chevrolet Camaro! Each one of the team realized
before going in that they were undertaking a greater project than the “build’s” from past years which
included several ’32 Ford Roadsters; a ’32 – three window; a ’32 – five window; a ’37 For pickup; as
well as a couple of ’53 Ford pickups. One year a ’34 Factory Five Roadster was also tackled and on its
completion was sold and driven to its new home in South Florida. Seems kind of appropriate home for it,
don’t you agree?
While this year’s Camaro had been resurrected from its former days of being on the drag strip….a
great deal of work was needed in preparation before the car would see daylight at this year’s thirteenth
camp. Prep work such as the initial cost for the Camaro body, the 2006, LS2 engine; T56 -6 speed
transmission; nine new body panels; trunk lid and accessories; plus other items were needed ahead of the
camp in order to have the Camaro ready when the young guys arrived to tackle the remainder of the
assembly. We are thankful to such companies as Restoration World L.L.C. from Dayton, OH; Danny &
Connie Mink from Danny’s Rod Shop, Somerset, KY; Yogi Somerfield of YOGI’S Inc in Monticello, IA;
Tray Smith of H&H Classic Chevrolet Parts in Bentonville, Ark; as well as others who will be noted
later Thank you to the CRA individuals who gave financial gifts, you were a huge part of changing focus
and direction and winning these young guys to the Lord.
The week-long (really the week-short) camp for 2015 consisted of six young guys who attended from
Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, and Ohio. Now here’s the real exciting, ‘THANK YOU JESUS!’ part of this
CRA Moment. Zeth from Indiana accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, while Trevor from Kentucky;
Zach from Florida, and Evan from Indiana rededicated their lives to Him. Four lives that were touched by
the truth of God’s Word, and then, each in turn responding to His call upon their individual life. That
means the dollars many of you sent to the CRA Branson office for camp, helped to win four young guys
to Christ and who are also now added to God’s Book of Life! You could not have spent money for a
more well deserving cause, and as I have said numerous times; God keeps good records! Your
faithfulness has not gone unnoticed. The CRA Builder/Leaders involved in the camp were Dan Jeffries,
CRA’s Int’l Hot Rod Camp director, Randy Scott, Kevin Jeffries, Michael Wright, Perry Brock, Larry
Estep, Rick Eibey, Buck Evrist, and Tim Borror.
Trusting your computer to allow you to see what the Camaro looked like in its beginning stage, and
then how it looked at the end of the CRA Hot Rod Camp are seen in the two pictures, with the third being
the exceptional group of men at this year’s camp.
I believe that no other words can sum up the appreciation we have at the CRA Headquarters in
Branson, MO, other than the words of the Apostle Paul who said, “I thank my God upon every
remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you with all joy, for your
fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now”
(Phil. 1:3-5). “It’s in the book!”
