Design Data: Submit design mix when property specification of ASTM C270 is to be used,

1. Submit tests on mortar indicating conformance of mortar to property requirements of ASTM
C270 and test and evaluation reports to ASTM C780 for aggregate ratio, water content, air
content, consistency and compressive strength.

MIX TESTS

Test mortar and grout in accordance with Section 01 4500.

Test mortar mix for compressive strength and slump.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01
MATERIALS
A.
Portland Cement: ASTM C150, Type I, gray color.
B.
Mortar Aggregate: ASTM C144, standard masonry type.
C. Hydrated Lime: ASTM C207, Type S.
D. Water: clean and potable.
2.02

No masonry cements allowed.
F.
Integral water repellent mortar additive to match that in the CMU at the wing walls of hangar
entries. Rainbloc or equal. ASTM C1384.

2.03
MORTAR MIXING
A.
Thoroughly mix mortar ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in accordance with
ASTM C270.
B.
Achieve uniformly damp sand immediately before the mixing process.
C. Do not use anti-freeze compounds to lower the freezing point of mortar.
admixtures and mix thoroughly when repointing.
Add approved
D. If water is lost by evaporation, retemper only within two hours of mixing.
G. Use mortar within two hours after mixing at temperatures of 80 degrees F or two-and-one half
hours at temperatures under 50 degrees F.
H. Pointing Mortar: ASTM C270, Type N, using the Property Method with maximum two percent
ammonium stearate or calcium stearate per cement weight and admixture in a 3 parts water to 1
part Acryl 60 mix.

Grout for bond beams, block filling, Bearing Plates, lintels, H. M. frames, etc.
A.

3,000 psi at 28 days – 7” – 8” sLump. Meet ASTM C-476. No antifreeze compounds allowed.
ADMIXTURES
A.
Dry Block mortar admixture by Forrer Industries for integral waterproofing for use with CMU
where used on the exterior of new masonry construction at wing walls at hangar entry.
B.
Décor-Face color additive by Masonry Processes, Inc. Color to match CMU.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01
INSTALLATION
A.
Install mortar and grout to requirements of the masonry Section 04 2200.
B.
Provide mortar color agent if required at wing walls at hangar entries to match CMU color there.
C. Add waterproofing additive to mortar for all joints in all CMU work where the CMU is the exterior
wythe of masonry.
3.02
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A.
Test in accordance with ASTM C780 for aggregate ratio, water content, air content, consistency
and compressive strength.
B.
Test in accordance with ASTM C143 for slump.
C. Provide one test and prepare one cylinder for testing for mortar required for each 4,000 brick
units.
