Tuition under AB540, may be considered
for some UCSD scholarships.
GPA: 3.6+ for merit awards, 3.0+ for all
other awards
Completed less than 15 quarters.
Restrictions:
 Preference to Non-Regents, Non-Jacobs,
and Non-Chancellors Scholars
 For financial need scholarships, file a
FAFSA by March 2, 2013. (Additional

Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Honors.

Only apply for those scholarships for which you meet the

Part IV: Resume (Required )
Exception: For Merit or Financial Need Scholarship Only you can enter “None” in Resume for the application

For all other scholarships the Resume is mandatory.
The Resume includes four areas:
1) Honors /awards
2) Extracurricular activities (clubs, organizations)
3) Community service
4) Employment / internships
You can list activities for the past 3 years including
high school except Alumni Scholarships that require
college-level activities. Enter leadership positions in
title.
Indicate start and stop dates, or “ongoing.” (Sample
Resume attached).

Part V: Essay (Required )
Exception: For Merit or Financial Need Scholarship Only -
understanding of your strengths, interests, and
aspirations.
If only one section applies to you, you can complete
just one or two of the sections and you will have
fulfilled the essay requirement.
Write about events or circumstances that
demonstrate:

Academic and personal achievements

Talents, experiences, interests
Section C:
Personal and career goals
Each Section: 1,700 characters or less, including
spaces (approx. ½ page of 12 font, single space).
There is some flexibility for additional characters /
spaces.
There is no spell-check. Use Word, plain text, then
copy and paste. Use basic formatting (no bullets,
indenting, etc. – these distort text).

majoring in Philosophy,
Comparative Religions, or
International Relations. This is a

Awarded to promising students
in Computation, Mathematics, or
Physics. This is a one-year
award and the amount varies up

Awarded to students majoring in
Natural Sciences or Engineering.
Preference is given to students
with demonstrated financial
need, who are dependents of

Hajim Family Scholarship:
This Alumni Leadership
Scholarship is awarded to fulltime current undergraduate
students, majoring in Visual Art,

This is a two-year undergraduate
award up to $2,000. In the

Scholarship: Awarded to

non-renewable award. The
amount of this award varies up
to $1,500. In the Essay: Provide

* Italo Scanga Memorial
Scholarship: Awarded to
undergraduate students majoring
in Visual Arts. This is a one-year
award up to $2,000. In the
supplemental box provide
information about your interest
or accomplishments in the field
of Visual Arts, information on
your artwork or portfolio pieces,
and list the name(s) of Art
Department faculty who are
familiar with your work.
* Sun God Scholarship:
Awarded to continuing
undergraduate students, with
demonstrated involvement in the
arts, who are receiving financial
aid, and have a 3.0+ GPA.
Students are selected based on
their financial need and personal
statement. This is a one-year
award up to $700. This
scholarship is funded by UC San
Diego Alumni donors who share
a passion for the arts through
the Sun God Festival. In the
supplement box provide answers
to these questions: 1) How have
you demonstrated a passion for
the arts while at UC San Diego?
2) What would a scholarship like
the Sun God Scholarship enable
you to do in pursuit of the arts?
Visual Arts Endowment
Scholarship: Awarded to
current full-time students.
Intended to support talented
undergraduate students
majoring in Visual Arts. This is
a one-year award up to $4,000.

only when a scholarship offer is

LaVerne Noyes Foundation
Scholarship: Awarded to direct
descendants of U.S. World War I
veterans (i.e. four months of
U.S. service prior to November
11, 1918), who qualify for
financial aid. This is a one-year
award and the amount varies, up
to $1,000. Verification as a U.S.
veteran descendant needed only
if a scholarship offer is made.

Scholarship: Awarded to
students diagnosed with cancer,

Iranian-American Student’s
Scholarship: This outside
agency scholarship is awarded to
students who are of Iranian or

Scholarship Application at

Jeffrey R. Leifer Leadership
Scholarship: Awarded to
current students who have
demonstrated financial need,
academic achievement, are the
first generation in their family to
attend college, and graduates
from California high schools that
have historically been
underrepresented at UC
campuses. This is a one-year
award and the amount varies up
to $1,000. In the Special
Circumstances Section: Provide
information about your parents’
level of education, and your
motivation to attend college as a
first generation college student.
Joseph H. Lima Scholarship:
This Alumni Leadership
Scholarship is awarded to
students with demonstrated
financial need, from an
immigrant family (student or
parents born outside the U.S.),
who have immigrated or are
immigrating to the U.S.,
including someone with visa
status of “asylee,” and have
college-level academic, campus
or community service/leadership.
This is a two-year undergraduate
scholarship up to $2,000
annually. In the Special

immigrant status/experience.

Marchick-Rallo Scholarship:
This Alumni Leadership
Scholarship is awarded to
undergraduates who have a 3.0+

Student Government. This is a
two-year scholarship up to
$2,000 annually. In the Resume
and/or Essay: Provide

George Parker Memorial
Scholarship: Awarded to
students with demonstrated
financial need, who were
orphaned for at least 3 years
prior the age of 18, and/or who
were raised in foster care for at
least 3 years immediately prior
to the age of 18. This is a
renewable award, paid in the
amount of up to $2,000
annually. Verification of orphan
or foster care status is needed
only if a scholarship offer is
made. In the Special
Circumstances Section: Provide
information about the
circumstances in which you
became a foster child or
orphan, and the challenges you
have experienced or overcome.
Sven Peterson Memorial
Scholarship: Awarded to a
2013-2014 Warren College
sophomore or junior, majoring
in an area other than
engineering or life sciences,
who has been named to the
Warren College Provost’s
Honors list at least one quarter,
and has a 3.0+ cumulative
GPA. This is a one-year $2,000
award. Students may reapply.
* Portillo Family Christian
Scholarship: Awarded to first
generation students (i.e.
parents did not attend college),
have a 3.0+ GPA,
demonstrated financial need,
active members of selfidentified Christian student
organizations registered with
the Center for Student
Involvement, i.e. “Christian”
appears in the name of the
student organization or in the
purpose/description.
Preference given to those who
have graduated from a Los
Angeles County public high
school. This is a one-year award
up to $2,000. In the
supplemental box, provide
information about your
involvement in a Christian
student organization. If you
graduated from a Los Angeles
County high school, provide the
name and city of your school.
Leon T. Roach Academic
Scholarship for Athletes: This
Alumni Leadership Scholarship is
awarded to undergraduate
students with financial need, with
a 3.0 GPA, have academic,
campus or community leadership
experience, and are athletes with
one of the Intercollegiate Athletic
Teams, with preference to the
Men’s and Women’s Track and
Field Team. This is a two-year
scholarship up to $2,000
annually. In the Resume and/or
Essay: Provide information about
your athletic involvement.
Senior Gift Scholarship: This
scholarship was established by
UCSD graduating seniors and
seeks to recognize outstanding
students (not limited to seniors),
who have qualified for financial
aid and have demonstrated
college–level academic, campus
or community service/leadership.
This is a one-year award and the
amount varies up to $2,012. In
the Resume and/or Essay:
Provide information about your
community service.
Malcolm R. Stacey Memorial
Scholarship: This is a oneyear scholarship up to $2,000,
awarded in the following
priority.
1. Undergraduate Jewish
students who are orphans and
preparing for graduate study in
aeronautical engineering.
Provide background on your
experience as an orphan.
2. Undergraduate Jewish
students in the field of
aeronautical engineering.
3. Jewish students majoring in
engineering.
4. Jewish students in any field
of study.
* Student Foundation
Scholarships: The Student
Foundation Scholarships are oneyear awards, ranging from
$1,000–$1,500, given to
continuing UC San Diego
students (2013-2014) who have
demonstrated financial need,
and college-level academic,
campus or community service
and leadership. Students are
selected based on their GPA and
personal statement. These
scholarships are funded by Give.
Invest. Gain. donors and the
student-supported Student
Foundation Endowment Fund. In
the supplemental box answer
these questions: 1) What does
philanthropy mean to you? 2)
How have you been
philanthropic? 3) What
philanthropic activities do you
plan beyond UCSD?

Employee Dependent
Scholarship: Awarded to
students with a 3.0+ GPA,
demonstrated financial need,
who are dependents of UCSD
employees. This is a one-year
scholarship and the amount
varies. In the Part III
Supplemental Box: Provide your
parent’s name, job position/title,
UCSD Department, and
Department phone number.
UCSD Town and Gown
Scholarship: Awarded to fulltime 2013-2014 juniors or
seniors, with a 3.4+ GPA,
demonstrated financial need,
who show exceptional promise
for making future contributions
in public or community service
(including but not limited to
foreign affairs, medicine, social
service, and political science).
Selection process may include
an interview. This is a one year
award up to $5,000. In the
Essay and/or Resume: Provide
information about your interest
in pursuing a Public Service
career or community service.

Scholarship: This Alumni
Leadership Scholarship is
awarded to full-time students,
with a 3.0+ GPA, demonstrated
financial need, and academic,
campus, or community
leadership, and have suffered
the death of a parent from
cancer or who has cancer
affecting an immediate family
member. This is a one-year
undergraduate scholarship up
to $2,000 annually. In Special
Circumstances: Provide
information about your
undergraduate community
service and circumstances that
qualify you for this award.
Vickerman/Munoz Family
Scholarship for Transfer
Students: This Alumni
Leadership Scholarship is
awarded to full-time transfer
students, with a 3.0+ GPA,
demonstrated financial need,
and college-level academic,
campus or community
service/leadership. This is a
two-year undergraduate
scholarship up to $2,000
annually. In the Resume and/or
Essay: Provide information
about your community service.
