Sara Lomax-Reese is the president and general manager of WURD Radio, LLC, Pennsylvania’s only AfricanAmerican owned talk radio station. She has been the host and producer of HealthQuest Live radio show on WURD since 2002. Prior to her work with WURD, Sara co-founded HealthQuest: Total Wellness for Body, Mind & Spirit, the first nationally circulated African-American consumer health magazine in the country. Under her leadership, the magazine successfully grew from a 25,000 quarterly to a bi-monthly publication with a national circulation of over 500,000. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Sara’s writings have been widely published in The Miami Herald, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Essence Magazine, American Visions Magazine and Modern Maturity. Sara also served as an adjunct professor of communications at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. She has taught a collaborative course at the University of Pennsylvania titled “Urban Ethnography” which teaches students how to create audio documentaries that will air on 900AM-WURD. Sara has received numerous awards honoring her commitment to the health and well being of the African-American community. She received the Woman of Substance Award from the National Medical Association, the nation's oldest and largest organization of African-American physicians; she has been recognized as an outstanding leader in Philadelphia's health-care community by Blacks Networking for Progress; she was recognized as one of the "100 People to Watch" by Business Philadelphia Magazine; she received the “Tree of Life” award from the Wellness of You; and, HealthQuest Magazine was awarded the Beacon of Light Award from the Congressional Black Caucus for outstanding health coverage. In 2010 Sara was selected for the “Women of Distinction” award given by the Philadelphia Business Journal. And most recently, Sara was selected for the 2012 PECO “Power to the Community” award given by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Pennsylvania. Sara sits on a variety of boards including The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Maternity Care Coalition’s Riverside Correctional Facility working group. In 2006, Sara chose to continue her health education, graduating from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. And in 2007 she completed a yoga teacher training program. She has conducted numerous stress management workshops integrating yoga, meditation and holistic nutrition. She is married to Tim Reese and is the mother of three boys, Langston, Elijah and Julian. With an entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision, Sara remains committed to educating, empowering and enlightening the community. She is excited to embrace her current role at WURD Radio, mobilizing all of her experiences, to help build it into a powerful and vital voice for the African-American community.
