This week’s topic is… Landforms Objective: This unit is taught as a SS lesson at the beginning of the year along with the 50 states, but the vocabulary will also tie into science objectives 4b in Earth Science on constructive/destructive forces later in the year…. Power Point, Flashcards, Homework Study/memorize flashcards 5 minutes each night (Monday – Thursday). Test Friday. Instructional Strategy Vocabulary words include: continent, plateau, plain, isthmus, peninsula, cape, marsh, valley, glacier, channel, strait, river, gulf, bay, lake, sea, and ocean. Tuesday Instructional Strategy Materials Students rotate through 6 centers throughout the week. They complete 2 centers on Tuesday, 2 more on Wednesday, and the last 2 on Thursday. Center #3- Pictionary game with vocabulary words Center #4- Bingo game with vocabulary words PDF with vocabulary words, definitions, and examples – cut into strips for games Dry erase board and marker, copy of blank bingo sheets Thursday Instructional Strategy Students rotate through 6 centers throughout the week. They complete 2 centers on Tuesday, 2 more on Wednesday, and the last 2 on Thursday. Center #5- Reading comprehension center – books from Library on landforms Center #6-File folder game “strange sightings” Materials Friday Instructional Strategy Materials “Test and Rest” day. Students will take a 20 question, multiple choice test. On average, tests take about 30 minutes. Students then watch a TOPIC-RELATED video after the test. (Friday schedules are shorter due to R.I.T.)
