Flores supports, in Brussels, the inclusion of the Mediterranean Corridor as a priority project for the European Union Valencia (26-03-09) The Valencian Regional Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Mario Flores, met Diego Canga Fano, Head of Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Transport, Antonio Tajani, and the President of the Committee of the Regions, Luc Van den Brande, to let them know the strategic importance, for the Valencian Region, of the Mediterranean corridor. The goal of the meeting was stressing the meaning of the Mediterranean corridor as a twin-track rail link for freight and high-speed passenger services in the trans-European transport networks. At the meeting, Diego Canga Fano confirmed that he was aware of the Mediterranean Corridor importance as well as the concerns of FERRMED, the autonomous communities, the Valencian Regional Government, the city councils and the chambers of commerce about the need for promoting the corridor”. Moreover, “the DG TREN has admitted that the existence of the logistics platform projects in the Valencian Region was another reason for considering the Mediterranean Corridor as a priority. The corridor could increase the freight traffic and lessen traffic congestion”. Flores said that the Spanish Presidency, coinciding with the review of projects for the trans-European Transport Networks in 2010, will become a unique occasion to consolidate this project and to promote it from the European Institutions.
