Monday Greeting: complicated as switching the first letter of your name to a Z and saying hello "Zaul" instead of Paul. Share: Living Minute Activity: Category Snap How to Play: The group sits in a circle. The leader starts a rhythm using a sequence of knee slap, handclap, right-hand finger snap, left-hand finger snap. The leader then announces a category, such as fruits, on the right-hand finger snap and names an example, such as apples, with the left-hand finger snap. The next person in the circle must be ready to name the leader's fruit with the right-hand finger snap and then a different fruit with the left-hand finger snap: knee slap, hand clap, "apples, apricots." The play continues around the circle. Once an item has been named, it cannot be used again. Plan for Success: Model and practice the rhythm sequence around the circle before adding the words. Variations: Before the activity begins, the category is announced and each person says out loud an item that belongs in that category. Once an item has been named, it cannot be used again. The leader begins by identifying his own item with the right-hand finger snap and then names another player's item with the left-hand finger snap. That player then names her item followed by another player's item and so on. This variation sends the action jumping around the circle and demands that children not only listen but also remember what other players said. Message: Who is the person from literature that you would most like to meet and talk to? Why? What would you like to ask? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tuesday Greeting: Alphabet greeteing Share: Living Minute Activity: Activity: Category Snap How to Play: The group sits in a circle. Before play begins, based on the size of the circle, the group determines how many examples the "It" person will attempt to list before the object travels around the circle (a smaller circle has less passing time and therefore calls for fewer topics to list). The leader gives the "It" person the object to pass, starts the game with a command, and players begin to pass the object. "It" then names items in the category (aiming for the determined number) before the object is passed around the circle and returns to "It". EXAMPLES Name 5 fractions equivalent to ¼. (MS) Name 5 adjectives. (Intermediate, MS) Name 5 bones that connect. (MS) Name 5 U.S. states. (Intermediate) Plan for Success: Model and practice passing the object around the circle. Stress calm, efficient passing; try not to create a frenzied atmosphere for the player listing the examples. If after a few rounds the number of examples seems too high or too low, adjust and begin again. Message: Please make a list of ideas that we can use for our grafetti board. Thank you. Did You Know?
