DIRECTIONS FOR GETTING INTO DESIRE TO LEARN (D2L)
All, the following letter went to all students as an e-mail and a letter to inform them on how to
login to the new D2L system. Instructions on how to use the D2L system comes from the
eLearning Office.
Logon questions go to the IT helpdesk, 5700.
D2L use, design, and content questions go to eLearning, 2191.

Your third party username is
The implementation of Desire2Learn (replaces eCollege) for online courses requires the
following changes in using your campus computer logon. All student accounts will use
the same username as generated in Banner and the Portal. This third party username is
identified above.
The password you will use is the last 6 digits of your MSU Billings GID (student ID
number). You will be able to change and reset your password for the MSU
Billings/Desire2Learn logon (they are the same) at the following URL:
https://www.msubillings.edu/changeme <https://www.msubillings.edu/changeme> . The first
time you change your password you will be prompted for your third party username and
the last 6 digits of your MSU Billings GID. You will be required to fill out the answers to 2
questions. At any time in the future you will be able to return to this site, enter your third
party username, answer the 2 questions, and change your password and reaffirm the
answers to the questions.
To improve the security of your information you should change your password at least
every 120 days. Your password is required to be at least 8 characters long and made up
of at least one of each of the following; uppercase character, lowercase character,
special character, and numerals.
These changes will be made to your account and you can access your classes on the
first day of Spring Semester, January 14, 2009.
Campus Computer – you will use your third party username (identified above),
msubillings\firstname.lastname and your existing password if you have 2 text boxes to
use in the logon process. If you have 3 text boxes in your logon process you will use
your third party username (identified above) firstname.lastname, your existing password,
and msubillings for the domain.
Desire2Learn – you will use your third party username (identified above),
msubillings\firstname.lastname and your existing password.
Banner Web – you will logon using the same username and password as the
Banner self service account you currently use. This is your GID and Banner password.
Portal – you will logon using the same username and password as you
currently do, third party username (identified above) firstname.lastname, and your Portal
password.
You can access Desire2Learn through the MSU Billings web page (www.msubillings.edu
<http://www.msubillings.edu> ) by going to ‘Online University’ on the left and then ‘Go To
Class’ on the right where you will be prompted for the username and password
described above.
