Part II: Development
Attention Getter
Detailed Input of Content
Ask rhetorical question or something that involves everyone
by getting the audience to think about the topic. I.E.
-How many of you in this auditorium have encountered
someone who has been sexually assaulted?
-How many of you think this training only applies to the
military?
-How many of you know that men can be sexually
assaulted?
AR 600-20: Army Command Policy –prescribes the policies
and responsibilities of command, which include the Wellbeing of the force, military discipline, and conduct, the Army
and the Army Sexual Assault Victim Program.
DoD Directive 6495.01: Sexual Assault Prevention and
Response (SAPR) Program - assign responsibilities for the
SAPR Program on prevention, response, and oversight to
sexual assault.
DoD Instruction 6495.02: Sexual Assault Prevention and
Response Program Procedures – establish process and
procedure for forensic examination kit; case management
groups to handle sexual assault; program standards and
training requirements.
Part III: Implementation
Instructional Strategies
Direct Instruction:
Problem-based instruction - to involve audience in the kinds
of real-world thinking activities they will encounter on and off
the job
Presentation using advance organizers- goals, sequence,
and expectations of the lesson and by helping audience
retrieve appropriate prior knowledge.
Discussion - appropriate strategy for improving audience
thinking; promoting engagement in academic content; and
learning communication and thinking skills in a social
environment.
Formative Assessment
Simulation- students playing roles in simulated situations in
order to learn skills and concepts transferable to "real life."
I have chosen a variety of ways to check for understanding
and gather "evidence" of learning:
Summaries and Reflections (quick writes) – audience stop,
reflect, and make sense of what they have heard or read
(handouts), derive personal meaning from their learning
experiences, and increase their metacognitive skills.
Visual Representations of Information (quiz)– audience will
use verbiage and pictures to make connections and
increase memory, facilitating retrieval of information later
on. This helps me address audience diversity, preferences
in learning style, and different ways of "knowing."

Collaborative Activities (audience discourse) - audience
have the opportunity to move and/or communicate with
others as they develop and demonstrate their understanding
of concepts.
Real-Life Application: provide the audience with an example
of how they can use what they learned in a real-life setting.
For example, could they imagine the outcome of our daily
lives on and off the job if there were no policies or
regulations developed to prevent sexual harassment.
Team Bound Video: this video allows you to play the lead
character in an interactive movie.
Posters & Banners: to post up in or around the work area
promote awareness campaign
Contact Handout Cards (wallet size): an inspectable item to
be carried on them at all times depicting what steps to take
and agency contact numbers if they encounter or become a
victim of sexual assault/harassment.
