Beginning Teacher Revised 08/01/2010 BT1, BT2, BT3 Use this designation only for individuals who are within the first three years of his/her teaching career in the U.S. and has not completed the required 12 semester hours of ”Knowledge of the Learner” (Professional Education) courses. It is strongly recommended that for individuals coded as such, documentation is maintained which verifies courses completed and anticipated enrollment in courses that will satisfy this requirement. Is a doctor, professor, lawyer, lab technician, certified public accountant, musician, etc… and Teaches less than one-half the school day in the area of expertise. Nonpublic Temporary Teaching Authorization (NTTA) issued by Department of Education or by Diocesan Superintendent. The NTTA is valid for the current school year. Per Bulletin 741, Section 303.A.2.c., “Knowledge of the Learner” (Professional Education) courses should provide the teacher with a fundamental understanding of the learner and the teaching and learning process. Coursework should address the needs of the regular and exceptional child. Acceptable courses identified by Department of Education Staff include the following: Grades PK-3, 1-5, 4-8, 6-12 – child/adolescent development or psychology, the diverse learner, classroom management/organization/environment, assessment, instructional design, and reading/instructional strategies that are content and level appropriate. Special Education Mild/Moderate (1-5, 4-8, 6-12) – special needs of the special education mild/moderate exceptional child, classroom management, behavioral management, assessment and evaluation, methods and materials for Special Education mild/moderate exceptional children, and vocational and transition services for students with disabilities. All level K-12 areas – Child psychology and adolescent psychology, the diverse learner, classroom management/organization/environment, assessment, instructional design, and reading/instructional strategies.
