Big Idea:
Insects have unique structures, behaviors and basic needs such
as food, water, air, and waste removal. Insects are related to
each other, yet exhibit variations and complex life cycles.
Engaging Scenario:
“Scientists at the Jack O’ Connor Education Center are making an exhibit
about insects for visitors. They would like for you to help by finding out
some information about different insects. This will help them with their
exhibit. They have sent us some materials and printed information that
may help us. They also need us to keep accurate records and labeled
drawings in our science notebooks and then send them a report about
what we find out about our insects in a couple of months.”
What is the problem we need to solve?
What do we need to investigate?
