Veni, Sancte Spiritus! "All Christ's faithful are to promote Catholic schools, doing everything possible to help in establishing and maintaining them.” Canon Law 800.2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This coming week our school buildings “come alive” with the return of the students of the Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish. I have been writing to you a lot about Catholic education, and this weekend you will hear (or have heard) me speak about it at all our Liturgies. My reason for doing so is that Catholic education is essential for us living out the mission given to us by Jesus Himself, when He said: Go make disciples. The Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish are here first-and-foremost for mission- to assist all our parents (the first teachers) in the formation of their children in our treasured Catholic faith – and I do mean all our parents. Since arriving at Saint Mary’s, I have had many conversations about Catholic education. I rejoice as I hear of the blessings our schools have been in the lives of so many of our parishioners. Yet, it has also saddened me when I have heard that there are parents who could not send their children to Saint Mary Grade School or Mater Dei Prep because they could not afford to do so. I understand that Catholic education is a significant investment, both personally and financially. However, Catholic school cannot be just for those families who can afford them – that is not Catholic! Catholic schools must be available for every Catholic family regardless of income! As pastor, you will hear me say over and over again that, it is my philosophy that any Saint Mary parents, who are actively practicing their faith, and wishes their child to receive a Catholic education at the Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish are able to do so regardless of their financial situation. This is what it means to be “Catholic!” This is a belief I hold at the core of my being and one that I am committed to making possible. This is one of the main reasons that today our parish establishes the Ave Maria Fund. The Ave Maria Fund provides an avenue for all Christ’s faithful to “Invest in the Mission” of the Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish by their generous financial support. The weekly collection for the Ave Maria Fund is only the first step to raise the needed financial resources that will enable us to offer student financial aid along with supporting the ongoing priorities of the Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish. Most importantly, the Ave Maria Fund helps us fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, to Go make Disciples! As the Campus Schools of Saint Mary Parish open this week, I ask that we all pray for the Lord’s blessing on our students and the new school year. A prayer card for our schools will be “handed out” by our students at the end of all the Masses this weekend. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of your prayers in the support of our mission of Catholic education. Let us also, in prayer, commend our students to the maternal care of Mary, the Mother of God… they are ---after all ---“Mary’s kids.” “Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis!” In Jesus and Mary, Father Jeff Kegley Pastor PS: On Monday, our nation celebrates Labor Day. Please join our parish community at our 9:00 a.m. Mass at Mary, Mother of God Church in celebrating the blessings of our work, and pray for those who are seeking employment. 2 TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes . . .a time to be born. . . . RCIA Catechists, Team Members, Orientation Parish Prayer Partners, Catechumens and Candidates, are invited to THE PROGRAM ORIENTATION When? Sunday, September 9, at 9:00 a.m. Where? Mary, Mother of God Church – Bulman Center Meeting Room The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a journey of faith. It is a gradual process of unfolding the mysteries of faith, which “takes place within the community of the faithful” who journey with the catechumens and candidates, and also renews their own conversion. The initial period of inquiry is essential to the journey of faith as a time of evangelization. We pray that their hearts be opened by the Holy Spirit. May they believe and be freely converted to the Lord and commit themselves sincerely to Him. For He who is the way, the truth, and the life fulfills all their spiritual expectations, indeed infinitely surpasses them. For further information, call Sr. Gloria @ 732-671-0071.
