1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division

The Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management serves as the Registrar and the Director of
Commencement. The AVP supervises the direction of the offices of Admissions, Undergraduate
Student Recruitment (Reno campus as well the Southern Nevada Office in Las Vegas), New Student
Orientation, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Veteran's Services and the Disability Resource Center. The
Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management has a dual reporting relationship to the Vice
President for Student Services and the Provost.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

30% - Enrollment Management
Supervises the Office for Prospective Students and Admissions which:
 Directs the implementation of undergraduate enrollment goals.
 Establishes undergraduate enrollment goals in cooperation with the President’s cabinet and
Academic Leadership Council.
 Designs and implements effective recruitment strategies in cooperation with the university’s
schools and colleges.
 Mobilizes the functions of admissions, registration, scholarship and financial aid to maximize
yield; establishes flexibilty in resource allocation in order to effectively realize enrollment
targets.
 Oversees recruitment event planning; determines event participation i.e. College Fairs, Telecounseling, School Visitation Schedules.
 Conducts assessment of the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and activities through a
determination of yield analysis.
 Develops and implements diversity student recruitment plan, establishes diversity goals;
Implements recruitment programs for students of color.
 Supervises Student Ambassador and Student Orientation Staff programs.
 Coordinates the design and development of recruitment publications and media; determines
the effective use of recruitment materials, i.e, print, web, electronic through assessment and
evaluation; monitors departmental publications for conformity to university style, message, and
support of university recruitment goals.
 Supervises the Office of Financial Aid, Scholarships and Student Employment

 Federal, state and university financial aid programs
20% - Fiscal and facility management
 Administers Enrollment Services state dollars budget (~3 m.)
 Supervises fiscal reporting, fund management and program management of federal, state and
university financial aid programs, scholarships, veteran’s educational benefits, student
employment (~ 35 m.)
 Establishes and monitors Enrollment Services self-supporting and grant budgets (~1 m)
 Determines staffing and organizational structures to support the full range of services
performed by a staff of approximately 20 professional, 35 classified and 50+ student
employees

10% - Supervises the Disability Resource Center to assure appropriate accommodation for students
with disabilities at the university
20% - Registrar
 Supervises the management and coordination of the university general catalog and
production, commencement bulletin, enrollment services information to students
 Supervises instructional space assignment, academic transcript services, schedule of classes
 Maintains campus master course inventory; member, ex-officio, university curriculum
committee; oversees transfer articulation policies and procedures
 Administers UCCSN system policies regarding admissions, academic action and graduation
 Coordinates admissions and enrollment process for distance education and continuing
education programs
 Supervises the Associate Registrar for the Degree Audit Reporting System including
automated transfer articulation and electronic exchange of transcript data
 Supervises student electronic personal account with features such as web registration, shop
for open classes, account balance inquiry, fee payment, financial aid award, admission and
financial aid status, on-line transcript and degree audit report
 Assures Student Information System efficiency and data integrity; serves as security
coordinator, maintains user authorization and profiles
 Directs Commencement Ceremonies
10% - Research, Planning and Evaluation
 Conducts Freshmen Survey of all new freshmen, Cooperative Institutional Research Program
(CIRP) and other student surveys as appropriate such as CSS (College Student Survey)
 Assists the University Assessment Office with the Alumni and Employer Follow-up surveys of
recent graduates
 Serves as Advisory Board Member for University Assessment Office
 Provides enrollment reports and ad hoc reports as required by institutional research and the
university community
 Reviews content of Enrollment Services Web pages; information for prospective students,
New Student Orientation, Schedule of Classes, Registration, Application for admission
 Communicates academic policies to faculty through memoranda, workshops, presentations to
Faculty Senate
10% - Legal Affairs and Regulation Compliance
 Supervises the production of data for federal reporting requirements, i.e., Integrated PostSecondary Educational Data System (IPEDS) Fall Enrollment Summary, Freshmen Enrollment
Survey, Completions Report and Graduation Rate Surveys; Student Right to Know Cohort and
Graduation Rate Disclosure Reporting; Federal Financial Aid Reporting (FISAP)
 Serves as the university’s FERPA Coordinator (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act),
monitors university compliance with regard to academic record keeping
 Assures compliance with American Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admission’s
Officers (AACRAO) standards for student record keeping, grading practices, grading systems,
academic policies and procedures
 Coordinates compliance with Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act for Enrollment Services

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Decisions and judgments made by this position impact the entire campus. Decisions regarding the
production of the class schedule, the registration of students, the submission of grades and grade
processing affect deans, faculty, staff and students. Decisions regarding the commencement
ceremonies affect deans, faculty, staff, and students. Decisions regarding financial aid and
scholarships impact the ability of students to pay for their education, impacting FTE. Decisions in the
recruitment of new and transfer undergraduates impact the reputation of the university and how it is
perceived by the public. Decisions regarding accommodations for students with disabilities impact the
maintenance of academic integrity and the ability of the university to comply with state and federal
regulations regarding individuals with disabilities. The consequence of error is the loss of federal
financial aid as well as state and university funds.

Knowledge:
 State and federal laws regarding privacy of student information e.g. FERPA, GLBA, etc.
 State and Federal Financial Aid Regulations e.g. Title IV Requirements, Millennium
Scholarship regulations
 State higher education regulations e.g. Board of Regents Handbook
 Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding individuals with disabilities

Contacts are diverse and varied ranging from the president of the university to deans, department
chairs, faculty, staff, university students and prospective students; from community leaders to
university and community college system officials including the chancellor, vice chancellors,
presidents, deans, faculty, staff.
President: direct contact in matters of commencement planning; occasional contact in matters of
enrollment planning.
Deans: Regular contact in enrollment planning, class schedule offerings, establishment of course rule
pre-requisities, scholarship policies and procedures, accomodations for students with disabilities,
enrollment policies and procedures.
