Orientation
With the phone closed, position it with the half having a horizontal tactile ridge
uppermost and the hinge edge along the top.
Starting at the very top of the phone and coming towards you there is an indentation
over the central half of the edge which is the enclosed, sprung hinge that is used to
"flip" the phone open and closed.
Moving further towards you about a third of the way down the phone you will find two
LED lenses. The top one of these is illuminated when the battery is low and the lower
one tells you that you have a new message. This LED also flashes when the phone is
closed and on standby. Immediately below these is a green horizontal tactile ridge.
Left side
With the phone on its back as before, on the left side near the hinge end there are two
buttons (white or black depending on the model). The top one is a switch marked with
a "+" (Up) and the lower one is a switch marked with a "-" (Down). These are used to
turn the volume up and down.
3
Right side
Towards the top of this side near the hinge end there are two small circular sockets.
The top one is used to charge the phone from the charger lead and the lower one is to
connect the earpiece.
Bottom Edge
On the bottom edge of the phone there are two centrally positioned small holes that
can be used to fit the neck strap. On either side of these holes there are recesses for
contacts, which enable the phone to be charged when sitting in the optional charging
cradle.
Underside of the phone
Turn the phone over with the hinge at the top furthest away from you. The battery
cover forms the bottom two thirds of the back of the phone and removing this gives
access to the rechargeable battery bay and the SIM card tray. Immediately above the
battery cover on the left hand side is the SOS emergency button slightly depressed
below the surface with a tactile surround. To the right of this button are three horizontal
cut outs in the moulding covering the internal loudspeaker.
The Open Phone
Now open the phone, rest it on its back with the upper half containing the display
furthest away from you and the bottom half with the buttons nearest to you.
Centrally located near the top edge of the upper half is a small rectangular hole to
enable you to hear the loudspeaker. To the left and right of this hole are two small
bumpers which protect the phone when closing the flip. Immediately below this hole
there is a flat dark surface, which is the colour display screen, covering the rest of the
upper half. At the bottom of the screen there is a silver Doro logo. The display will
show numbers and various icons in black text on top of a wallpaper background of
your choice.
Move toward you, passing the centrally located hinge, to the lower half of the phone
you will find there are six rows of buttons. The first is a row of 2 long rectangular black
buttons with horizontal white lines across their centres. These two buttons are used to
select options in accordance with the changeable prompts shown at the bottom of the
screen.
The next row has three large black buttons. The first, left hand button has a diagonal
phone symbol in green and this is the OK or Call button. The right hand button has a
red horizontal phone symbol with a red line underneath the symbol. This button has a
number of functions and is the end call, cancel and reject call button. The button is
also used to turn the phone on and off. The middle button, covering two switches, has
a white arrowhead pointing up on the top half and a white arrow pointing down on the
bottom half. This scroll button enables you to scroll up and down through lists or
menu options.
4
The next four rows of buttons form the number keypad. The first row has 1, 2, 3 the
second row 4, 5, 6 and the third row 7, 8, 9. The bottom row has star, 0 and hash. The
5 key has two tactile markers. The first three rows also have the letters of the alphabet
distributed over these number keys in the standard allocation as follows 2 is A, B, C; 3
is D, E, F; 4 is G, H, I; 5 is J, K, L; 6 is M, N, O; 7 is P, Q, R, S; 8 is T, U, V and 9 is W,
X, Y, Z. These letters are used to enter names against the numbers that you store in
your phonebook and also to create SMS text messages.
Below all these buttons there is a small centrally located hole in the case to allow
sound to reach the microphone.
Display
When the phone is switched on the display shows a series of small graphic symbols on
the top row, they are:
 Signal strength - an aerial symbol with increasing height white bars alongside it.
These will vary in number with network coverage - more bars equal better coverage
 Ring/vibrate - a musical note symbol to the left of a mobile phone symbol indicates
a ring tone only is selected, two vertical lines either side of the mobile phone symbol
shows that vibrate only is selected. Two vertical lines to the right of the symbol and
a musical note to the left indicates the phone will both ring and vibrate.
 Headset - A headphone symbol will appear if the headset is connected.
 Alarm - a yellow bell indicates that the alarm has been activated
 Missed calls - shows as an angled telephone symbol with an exclamation mark
and indicates you have missed or selected to reject a call. Missed calls will also
show in the main display, just after they happen, as an angled telephone in a box
and the number of missed calls.
 New message - a closed envelope symbol indicates there is a new unread text
message.
 Roam -the letters RM inside a small square box - will appear if you travel abroad.
Please telephone your network provider before you travel to ensure your network
operator has enabled this service for your account.
 Battery charge level - in the top right hand corner of the screen. It consists of a
small battery shaped graphic with a combination of three white or black segments
that change with battery charge level. Three black segments indicate full charge
and three white segments means the battery is almost flat
Getting Started
SIM card
Insert / Remove SIM card
First remove the battery cover. To remove the battery cover, first switch off the phone,
close the clam shell and hold the phone face down in one hand with the hinge along
the top edge. Using your other hand, slightly depress the middle of the battery cover
5
inwards and slide the cover downwards away from the hinge until the cover clicks out
of its location lugs.
With the hinge of the closed phone at the top, the SIM-card tray is located on the top
right hand corner of the battery bay and is accessible when the battery is removed. It is
located in a recessed rectangular shaped area, with a lockable metal 'bridge' across
the middle.
First, unlock the metal bridge by sliding it slightly upwards towards the phone's hinge
edge. Lift this bridge up which is hinged at the top and leave it open while the SIM card
is inserted. With the brass coloured contacts of the SIM Card facing down and the cut
off corner of the SIM-card towards the outside edge of the battery bay (right hand
edge), locate the SIM-card into the recess in the SIM-card bay. Now close the metal
'bridge' and slide it slightly downwards to lock it in place. Remove the SIM card by
using a finger to slide the metal bridge upwards and hinge it open.
SIM - Enter PIN
This function has not been activated with the SIM card originally supplied with the
phone. If it is displayed on screen, when you switch the phone on, enter the 4-digit
number that will come with your SIM card paperwork. As you enter the number the
display will show stars instead of numbers.
WARNING - if you enter the PIN number wrong three times then the phone will lock
completely and you will have to contact your Network operator for an unlock code. If
there is no SIM card in the phone the display will show a single small square and an
arrow pointing down and the switch on sequence will stop.
NOTE - if you press the green call button with no SIM card in the phone, it will dial the
emergency services.
Battery
Battery insertion
First remove the battery cover. To remove the battery cover, first switch off the phone,
close the clam shell and hold the phone face down in one hand with the hinge along
the top edge. Using your other hand, slightly depress the middle of the battery cover
inwards and slide the cover downwards away from the hinge until the cover clicks out
of its location lugs.
Place the phone face down on a table, with the battery cover removed and the battery
bay closest to you. The flat, rectangular battery has 3 brass coloured contacts and two
locating lugs at one end and a small tag on each side of the other end. Hold the battery
so that you insert the battery into the bay, brass contacts and lugs first, and then press
the battery flat into the bay. (The battery has a white side with writing on it and this side
should face upwards).
6
Replacing the battery cover
Locate the cover over the back of the phone, with the two lugs on the top edge of the
battery cover under the top edge of the battery recess on the phone. Slide the cover
upwards and click it into place.
Battery removal
There are two small lugs on ether side at the bottom edge of the battery. With a
fingernail underneath one of the lugs lift the battery out.
Charging the battery
Before using the phone for the first time, it is recommended that you charge it for at
least 3 hours. Note however that the full battery capacity will not be reached until it has
been charged and discharged 3 or 4 times. Using the mains charging unit that came
with your phone, insert the small round plug into the top of the two sockets on the right
hand side of the phone. Push it in until it clicks in place. Plug in the 3-pin power
charging unit into a mains socket and switch on. When you start charging with the
phone switched off, the screen will display a large rectangular battery symbol, which
will appear to be filling from bottom to top. If the phone is switched on when charging a
two-pin plug symbol and the words "Charger Connect" will momentarily appear on the
screen when you start charging. When the charging lead is removed the same symbol
with a cross through it and the words "Charger Removed" will momentarily appear.
With the phone turned on, a small filling battery symbol will appear in the top right hand
corner of the screen through the duration of charging.
Instead of plugging the charger directly in to the phone it is possible to place the phone
in the optional charging cradle (if purchased separately) and plug the charger lead in to
the socket on the back of this cradle. The same symbols as described above will
appear when the phone is placed in the cradle.
The battery can only be charged in the phone and if it is totally flat it may take a few
minutes of charge before it shows evidence of charging.
If you are not going to use the mobile phone for more than a month, it is recommended
that you remove the rechargeable battery from the phone and store it safely.

Safety Advice
Mobile phones must normally be turned off in hospitals and in the proximity of medical
devices. Please comply with any notices and requests from staff to switch off your
phone.
NOTE - There should be a minimum distance of 20 cm between a cardiac pacemaker
and a working phone. The mobile phone must never be carried in the chest pocket.
Please take advice from your medical advisor before you use this phone or any other
phone.
The mobile phone must be turned off when directed to by the ground or cabin staff
when you are at an airport or on board an aircraft.
The mobile phone must not be used when you are at or are close to petrol stations and
other potentially dangerous flammable locations.
Do not use your phone if you suspect a gas leak.
The SIM card should be handled carefully, like a credit card: do not bend it, scratch it
or subject it to static electricity.
21
Do not subject the phone to direct solar radiation. A usage other than that described
beforehand leads to the damage of the product. In addition, another usage could lead
to dangers such as, for example, electrocution, fire, etc. It is illegal to change or rebuild
any of the product parts and the encasement may not be opened.
Cleaning
Use a damp cloth to clean the device. Avoid the use of sprays and too many fluids
because these can enter the device through openings on the keypad and could cause
damages. Do NOT use any cleaning materials or fluids that contain scouring agents,
alcohol, spirits or solvents (turpentine). These agents can attack the synthetic
encasement and damage the imprint.
This mobile phone is to be used as a mobile communications device and contact with
dampness for example, in rain or in the bathroom, etc., must be avoided. Be careful
not to damage the phone in any way.

Troubleshooting
Calls fail to connect
Check you are in network coverage, you have sufficient airtime and that the phone
numbers you are dialing are correct.
Phoning outside of your own country:
If you are outside the home network of your network provider, your mobile phone
automatically detects and goes through another GSM network. For information on
additional costs incurred when using the phone outside your own national borders,
please contact your network provider.
How often should the rechargeable battery be recharged?
To maximize battery life do not recharge the rechargeable battery after every phone
conversation. Over the course of time, this leads to a reduced battery capacity. To
keep the battery in the best condition it is recommended that you allow the battery to
go flat and then fully recharge it completely once a month. Do not compromise your
safety or security to do this.
22
Can an emergency call, by entering 112, be made without
network coverage or airtime credit?
If there is no reception or you have no airtime credit the international emergency
number 112 can usually still be dialed. This facility is only to be used in a real
emergency and where you need the direct response of the emergency services. Abuse
of this facility may result in your phone being barred from making a call of any kind.
How can you improve the reception?
Try another location: when indoors, head towards a window or continue with the
conversation after you have exited an elevator, underground garage or a tunnel.
