Intro - Introduce Topic - Show pictures of a mushroom cloud to
get attention.
Ask Students for any prior knowledge - write words on the board.
Middle - Show Youtube Clip.
Show timeline on projector of significant dates. Students copy
into their workbook.
Explain how the war began.
Conc. - Ask questions regarding dates and causes of the war.
Homework - students read chapter 4.1 and 4.2 of text
Topic - Understanding key terms
Intro - Show images of key people and images. Eg Stalin, Berlin
Wall, photo of the napalmed girl
Middle - *Show Youtube clip again but this time students take
notes.
*Show powerpoint presentation of key terms not in the clip.
*Students produce 5 quiz questions.
*Play pictionary.
Conc. - Ask students who can tell me something about the key
words.

Middle - In groups, students come up with mnemonics to
remember NATO countries, Warsaw Pact countries, Eastern Bloc
and Western Bloc.
List of countries and a map will be on the projector.
Students share with the rest of the class.
Students write the best one down.

Conc. - I call out countries and students tell me if they belong to
the Eastern Bloc or Western Bloc, NATO, or Warsaw pact.

Intro - Ask informal questions about the previous three lessons
Middle - DEFCON game
Students do the quiz from questions students compiled in lesson
2.
Conc. - Informal evaluation. Ask questions and ask if students
