Grading will be curved IF curving helps. Ex: if mean is 70% and you get 78%, then you might get a B or better. Mean is C+/BMidterms are short answer, fill in the blank and maybe a couple of multiple choice I would be perfectly happy to give all A’s if everyone does extremely well – but that typically does not happen. Your grade is up to you. While the course is going on, I will do as much as I can to make sure you learn as much as you can about this material. If you want to learn more or you are confused, COME TO OFFICE HOURS. I may be ugly, but I am not that scary in my office. At the end of every quarter after the final, there are inevitably a handful of students who beg me for a way to increase their grade because they didn’t seek help when they had the chance. My answer to these requests to change grades is always the same – No. No. No. No. No. It would be grossly unfair to all students if I ever allowed anything but the scores determine the grade. Fairness is very important and fairness is the reason why a student will NEVER be able to increase their grade after the course is done. Module Project: In the last week of class, groups of two students will present a research paper to the rest of the class. Some sort of visual aids will be mandatory. In order to present the research, you will have to understand the research paper extremely well. In the early part of the term, you will be given a guide that will help you structure your presentation. Course Web Site: Web site will contain: The overheads from the lectures and lab will be posted on the course web site in powerpoint format. If you do not have access to the net at home, you can print these off in the computer labs (3290, 3312) before class. The overheads will be available the night.
