Social Studies Grade 8 IDEA Vocabulary Strategy Performance Task Scenario IDEA Vocabulary Strategy Goal: Your goal is to use a graphic organizer to assist in your ability to acquire, use, and retain vocabulary terms related to the causes, important events, and effects of the War of 1812 using the IDEA vocabulary strategy. Task 1: 1. Read pages 296-300. 2. Record the following words under the ‘Word’ column in the chart that appears in your passage. frigate privateer Treaty of Ghent 3. Say the words to your partner. 4. Use a dictionary, glossary, or online support to write the pronunciation of the words under the ‘Describe’ column in the chart. 5. Say the words again to your partner using the appropriate pronunciation. 6. Read the definition of the words to your partner. 7. Product Performance and Purpose: Research the War of 1812 by reading pages 296-300 and identify the text structure used. Next, prepare a cartoon which demonstrates the causes, important events, and effects of the War of 1812. Finally, write a script which explains each panel of your cartoon which will be read and recorded at another time.
