The Selection Process: The motive of the selection test is to chose a student with managerial abilities and to judge whether the candidate is suitable for their institute. The Selection Process is a three phased approach: 1. Aptitude Test (Written Test): The aptitude test or the written test is in fact not a selection but rejection process. Student quality control is imposed at this stage by testing their mental ability, hence a sizeable number of candidates are denied to go through to the next round. The test generally focuses on testing Verbal, Quantitative and Reasoning skills and includes questions on Reading and Comprehension, Language Proficiency, Numerical Ability, Data Analysis, Data Sufficiency, Critical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Psychological Aspects, General Knowledge and General Business Environment. 2. The Personality Tests: The selection process actually commences with these personality tests, namely Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), Presentations and Extempore etc. All the skills that were not tested in the Aptitude Test are tested in The Personality Tests. XAT Introduction The XLRI Admission Test prominently known as XAT is an all-India test conducted by XLRI (formerly known as Xavier Labour Relations Institute), abusiness school in Jamshedpur, India, as an entrance test for its management programmes as well as to many other reputed Top B-Schools in the country such as XIM [Xavier Institute of Management] Bhubaneswar, LIBA [Loyola Institute of Business Administration], Chennai, and many other reputed B Schools such as XIME Bangalore. Eligibility Candidates attempting the exam are required to have acquired a Bachelor's degree under 10+2+3 system from a recognized university or a deemed university. Those completing their final examination by June may also apply. Testing Areas XAT usually comprises 3 sections. The three sections are: Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning Examination Pattern XAT is a two-hour long exam and is divided into three or four sections of multiple-choice questions that test quantitative ability (mathematics), verbal ability (English) and data interpretation/logical reasoning skills. Until recently, there used to be a separate general knowledge section but it was done away with in 2005. In addition to this, there is an essay which needs to be written in 20 minutes after the main two-hour paper. The XAT is quite similar to the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs, except that the CAT has no essay. Candidates were surprised to note differential marking (1 marks to 5 marks) in XAT 2011(Maximum Marks:252). The paper was very difficult compared to all other Management Entrance Exams. XAT 2012, held on 8th January 2012 had fewer questions in all three sections (Decision Making:25, Quantitative Ability:32 and Verbal Ability:28). XAT 2012 (Maximum Marks:100) also had differential marking with questions allotted marks either 1, 1.5 or 2. Essay Topic: Students are were expected to write an essay of about 250-300 words in 20 minutes. This time instead of essay writing there is a paragraph. “The statesman who would attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted to no council and senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it.” You have to give Judgement with justification and support it with example. All other faculties have also got more than 99 percentile in their respective fields as it is a prerequisite for a faculty member of Entrance Pathshala. Knowledge is of no use for a teacher if he can’t transform the students and can’t transfer the same knowledge effectively to the students. Faculties at Entrance Pathshala are not only highly skilled, versatile and experienced but they are also equally passionate, helpful, friendly and caring. They exactly know how a student grasps the concepts and what should be the training technique that will make learning smooth and easy. Unique Training Methodology – “Think without Ink” Well, the phrase “THINK without INK” says it all, Doesn’t it? Solving questions that are asked in any competitive exam requires nothing but the application of same concepts that one has studied till his 10th standard, then what’s the need of joining any coaching institute? We stand apart from any other institute in exactly that regard. As aspirants are supposed to take minimal time for answering the questions, time management and understanding own strength and weakness areas is the key to success if well supported by Efficiency and Accuracy. We believe that students can attain Efficiency and Accuracy only if their mind process is fast enough and they learn not to write on paper anything and everything that their minds think as they are used to do till their graduation. So if one has to do the stuff that is exactly the opposite of what he has been doing for his life time, of course there is a need for specialized training. Generally most of the institutes which boast of so called best training for such competitive exams train with the same equation based or other traditional methods. For that very reason we have developed this unique training approach – “THINK without INK” which enables the aspirant to solve the questions with more clarity, efficiency and accuracy while minimum writing and minimal time. For learning to be made easy for “THINK without INK” approach our faculties use various innovative techniques. As it is important to visualize the situation given in questions and use own creative mind rather than to cram formulae to succeed in such exams, Students are made to play various group games & card games, they also have to face various practical questions and puzzles and solve some live problems using common sense to ease through the learning process.
