Out of Area Registrations scheme
From the 5 January 2015, GP Practices are able to register new patients who live outside of the practice
area without any obligation to provide home visits or services out of hours when the patient is unable to
attend their registered practice.
Urgent care for a patient registered under this new scheme would be provided within surgery hours by
another primary medical services provider, such as NHS 111. Outside of surgery hours, a patient would
contact the out of hours provider that the surgery use or contact NHS 111.
Patients requesting registration under this new scheme, will be asked to complete a Registration Form
which is then considered by the GP Partners to ascertain whether it is clinically appropriate for that
person to be registered under the scheme. If it is deemed that this would not be suitable, then the
patient would be asked to register with a surgery near to where they live.
