Course Description:
An introductory study of formal logical systems, together with their use in the analysis of various
types of arguments.
Course Pre-requisites: 4.0 university credits or permission of department chair. Excludes
PHIL – COST 240, PHIL – COIS 240H

Course Policies:
Because answers to the exercise sets are provided during class on the due date, (a) sets are due at the
BEGINNING of that class, and (b) late assignments CANNOT be accepted. Makeup sets for missed
assignments with NOT be available.
PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENTAL POLICY
Final departmental deadline for submission of work:
No term work will be accepted for evaluation in the Philosophy Department later than one week after the last day of
classes. The last day by which work will be accepted for fall half term will be Thursday, December 14, 2011; for winter
term half courses and full year courses the last day is Thursday, April 12, 2012. One week after the last day of classes is
also the deadline for the filing of Request for Incomplete Standing Forms to the Chair, with all the relevant
documentation.
Note: Most instructors will have deadlines well before this final departmental deadline. It is the student’s responsibility
to be familiar with instructor’s deadlines and deadline policies.
