ANNUAL REPORT : 2013 – 2014
The Chairman and Members of the Executive Committee of National
Institute of Personnel Management (Kerala Chapter) take pleasure in
presenting the Annual Report for the year 2013- 2014.
The year 2013 – 2014 was memorable and packed with enormous activities
and programmes with the whole hearted support and cooperation of our
valued Fellows, Members / Member Institutions and Well wishers.
NIPM Kerala Chapter has been adjudged as the “Best Chapter” for
the year 2012-2013 by NIPM National Council. The Best Chapter
award was received by the Chairman & Hon. Secretary along with
other Senior Members of the Chapter from Mr. R. Mohandas, NIPM
National President on 26th September 2013 during the 32nd Annual
National Conference held at GOA.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – 2013
The Annual Day Celebrations 2013 was organized at Hotel The Renai Cochin,
Palarivattom, Kochi on 15th June 2013. The Chapter Chairman Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai
presided over the function.
.
The MoM of the AGM 2012, Annual Report for the year 2012-13 were
presented by Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary and the Audited Statement
of Accounts & the Balance Sheet for the year 2012-2013 were presented by
Mr. G. Anilkumar, Hon. Treasurer. The Annual General Meeting adopted the
above MoM, Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts & Balance Sheet
unanimously. The AGM also appointed M/s. Joseph & Co., Ernakulam as
Auditors for the year 2013 – 2014.
Immediately after the business session, the Annual Day Celebrations were
held at the main venue. In the inaugural session, Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai,
Chairman, Kerala Chapter presided over the meeting. Mr. K.K. Vijayakumar,
Vice Chairman welcomed the members and guests.
A Power Point presentation and briefing about the detailed activities
conducted by our Chapter during the year 2012-2013
was made by Mr. K.
Suresh, Hon. Addl. Secretary.
A special recognition was given to Mr. K. Ramachandran Pillai, Former CMD,
NTC Limited by presenting Citation and Ponnada (Shawl) for his outstanding
contribution to NIPM Kerala Chapter and for NCON 2012.
Outstanding HR Manager of the Year Award for the year 2012-2013 was
declared by Chapter Chairman and presented to Mr. K.I. Raphael, Dy.
Director (P&A), Fluid Control Research Institute, Palakkad.
The award
includes Certificate of Merit, Memento and Cash Award.
Senior NIPM Kerala Chapter Members who have attained the age of 60
during the year 2012-13 were honoured by presenting Shawls and
Mementos. Various Academic Excellence Awards like Zachariah Memorial
Award, KRC Nayar Memorial Award, M. Sulaiman Memorial Awards were
presented during the occasion. Mementos and Certificate of Merits were
presented to the winners of NIPM Business Quiz 2012. Mementos were also
presented to NIPM Kerala Chapter Groups for their active participation
during 2012-13, Highest Attendance Award during Ex. Committee Meeting
2012-13 etc. were also presented during the above function.
Colourful entertainment items were presented by Family Members/ Children
during the Annual Day Celebrations. The celebrations were concluded with
Annual Fellowship and Dinner.

Annual Flagship Programme “Legal Update 2013”
15-06-2013 – NIPM Kerala Chapter’s Annual Flagship
Programme “Legal Update 2013” was organized at Hotel The
Renai Cochin, Palarivattom, Kochi on 15th June 2013 from 9.30
am to 5.00 pm. The Key Resource Person was Prof. H.A.C.
Poppen. The Panel Experts for Interactive Session were Mr. K. V
Mohandas & Adv. Benny P. Thomas. The programme was
inaugurated by Mr. Vincent Alex, Addl. Labour Commissioner (IR),
Government of Kerala. A total of 203 delegates from various
industries all over Kerala and nearby states attended the annual
workshop

One Day Workshop – “Employer’s Obligations under the
Sexual harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention,
Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013”.
29-11-2013 – A one day Workshop on the above topic was
organized at Hotel Presidency, Paramara Road, Kochi.
The
Resource Person was Prof. H.A.C. Poppen, Corporate Trainer and
Management Consultant from Bangalore.
A total No. of 72
delegates representing various industrial sectors all over Kerala &
nearby States attended the above one day workshop. Mr. Anish
Aravind welcomed the Resource Person and delegates and Dr. N.
Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Kerala Chapter inaugurated the
programme. At the closing ceremony Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon.
Secretary, Kerala Chapter proposed Vote of Thanks.

One Day Workshop – Creating Great Place to Work
(Principles, Practices & Processes) - The HR Way Ahead.
04-01-2014 – NIPM Kerala Chapter (Palakkad Group)
organized a One Day Workshop on the above topic on 4th Jan.
2014 at FCRI Conference Hall, Palakkad. The Key Resource

various Industries all over Kerala participated in the programme.
NIPM Annual Business Quiz 2013
NIPM Business Quiz 2013 (Level-I) for “Ghanshyam Binani Ever-rolling
Trophy” was organized by NIPM Kerala Chapter in association with Binani
Zinc Limited and SCMS Cochin on 25th July 2013 at SCMS Cochin
auditorium. Mr. K. Suresh, Hon. Additional Secretary, NIPM Kerala
Chapter welcomed the guests and participants and the
programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman.
The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Roshan Menon, Vice President
(Operations), Binani Zinc Limited, Kochi. The Quiz Master was
Mr. A.S. Arun. Total 21 teams from various B-Schools all over
Kerala participated in the Quiz competition. The following are the

In the valedictory session the Ghanshyam Binani Ever –rolling
Trophy and Cash Awards of Rs.10,000/-, Rs.7,500/- and
Rs.5,000/- respectively to the winners were distributed by the
Chief Guest Sri Roshan Menon. He also delivered the valedictory
address. Dr. V Raman Nair, Director, SCMS also addressed the
audience. Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary, NIPM, Kerala
Chapter proposed Vote of Thanks.
FAMILY GET-TOGETHERS/CELEBRATIONS

Annual Day Celebrations
15-06-2013 - On the occasion of the Annual Day Celebrations on
15th June 2013, NIPM Family Forum Members and Children
presented various colourful cultural programmes. Family Forum
also organized Dance, Musical programme etc. The Annual
Fellowship and Dinner for NIPM Members & Families was also
organized to mark the occasion.

ONAM 2013 & NCON 2012 Pride Celebrations
To celebrate the Harvest Festival of Kerala ONAM 2013 and
Anniversary of NCON 2012, a programme was organized on 6th
September 2013 at Mamangam Theatre, Carnival Complex,
Angamaly from 6.30 p.m. onwards. The Onam message was

delivered by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chapter Chairman.
The
introduction of the programme was given by Mr. A.S. Girish,
Fellow NIPM and Chairman, NCON 2012. Thereafter a RECAP on
the NCON 2012 was presented.
The Cultural Programme
“Minicry” was presented by Mr. Sreejith of Apollo Tyres after
which the famous Malayalam Film “TIME” was screened. The
programme was concluded with fellowship and Dinner hosted by
Kerala Chapter. The Hon. Secretary Mr. Saji V Mathew proposed
Vote of Thanks.

Christmas / New Year / Best Chapter Award Celebrations
A special pogramme was held at Hotel Park Central, Kaloor Kochi to
celebrate Christmas 2013 / New Year 2014 / Best chapter Award for 20122013. Various cultural Programmes were organized by NIPM Family Forum
Members during the Christmas / New Year Celebrations at Hotel Park
Central, Kochi on 30th Dec. 2013. The programme was concluded with
Fellowship and Dinner

Boat Cruise through Cochin Backwaters / Sea
A Family Get-together was organized on 24th May 2014 from 6.00
p.m. onwards for NIPM Executive Committee Members and their
families in Classic Paradise (Boat Cruise) through Cochin
Backwaters & Sea for about 4 hours. Various cultural events
including songs/dance etc. were presented during the journey.
The programme was concluded with fellowship and dinner.

Recruitment & Selection of Manpower
i)
Apollo Tyres Employees’ Multi Purpose Co-operative Society 20-102013 – NIPM Kerala Chapter have conducted a Written Test for the Post of
Attender at Apollo Tyres Employees’ Multi Purpose Co-operative Society on
20th October 2013 at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School,
Kalamassery, Kochi. The scope of work was setting of question paper,
successful conducting of written test and finalization of Rank List.

Kannur International Airport Ltd. - Recruitment and Selection of
Manpower for 8 Positions such as Technical Advisor, Technical Document
Controller, Human Resources Manager, Asst. Manager (Finance), Jr. Project
Engineer (Electrical), Jr. Project Engineer (Civil), Draughtsman (Civil) &
Accounts Assistant for Kannur International Airport Ltd. was conducted by
NIPM Kerala Chapter during March / April / May 2014. The total process
includes short-listing of online applications received by Kannur International
Airport against their advertisement published in leading news papers,
conducting Written Tests / Interviews and Release of Final Rank List.

Academic Excellence Awards
During the AGM 2012, Academic Excellence Awards to the children
in respect of Zachariah Memorial Award for Ist Rank Holder in
MHRM conducted by M.G. University, K.R.C. Nayar Memorial
Award for 2nd Rank Holder in MHRM conducted by M.G. University
were presented.
M. Sulaiman Memorial Academic Excellence Awards for Xth,
XIIth & Degree were also presented to the Children of NIPM
members on the occasion.

Student Interaction Programme for B-School Students
(i)
19-07-2013 – A Student Interaction session for new batch of MBA students
(2013-2015) was organized at Mar Athanasious College of Advanced Studies
Tiruvalla (MACFAST) in which a talk on the topic “What is expected out of an
MBA from the perspective of Industry” was delivered by Mr. P. Premchand,
Fellow NIPM, Past Chairman, Kerala Chapter, Past Southern Regional Vice
President, NIPM.

05-03-2014 – A Student Interaction was organized with the B-School
Students of the leading B-School in Ernakulam, Federal Institute of Science
& Technology, School of Management (FISAT)” on 5th March 2013. Mr.
Anish Aravind, Associate Director (Organizational Effectiveness), Arbitron
Technology Services India Pvt. Ltd. & Executive Committee Member, NIPM
Kerala Chapter delivered a speech on the topic “Social Media and HR
Function” and interacted with the students. About 200 students from the
Institute participated in the programme.

HR Interaction Programme for B-School Students

18-12-2013 – A Two Hour HR Interaction Programme for
MHRM/MBA Students Members from various B- Schools was
organized at NIPM House, Kochi. The Resource Person was Dr. T.K.
Ajaikumar, CEO, Abacus Consultants, Kochi and the topic was
“Assertiveness in Communication”. Mr. K. Suresh welcomed
the Resource Person and participants and Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai,
Chairman of the Chapter inaugurated the programme.

NIPM Foundation Day Celebrations
Meeting
& Evening Lecture
15-03-2014 As part of NIPM Foundation Day Celebrations, a Special
Evening Lecture Meeting was organized at Hotel Presidency, Kochi. During
the occasion Sri M.G. Rajamanickam IAS, District Collector, Ernakulam
delivered a talk on the topic “Human Resource Management in Civil
Administration”.
An executive Committee Meeting was also held on 15th March 2014 at Hotel
Presidency, KOCHI to mark the occasion of NIPM Foundation Day. Many
Senior Members spoke about the role of NIPM in various fields.

Kerala Personnel, our quarterly Magazine has been redesigned
(3 quarterly + 1 Annual) and the aesthetic appeal has caught
the attention of readers. Its richness and quality both in terms
of its contents and presentation are well appreciated by all

We are happy to inform you that we have a well equipped
Library at NIPM House, Kochi housing invaluable Books written
by eminent Scholars / Professionals / Writers, related to
HR/IR/Labour Laws etc. Members are requested to make use

NIPM Calicut Group
NIPM Calicut Group in association with Farook Institute of
Management Studies (FIMS) organized an “HR Conclave” at FIMS,
Farook College, Calicut on 26th February 2014 from 2.30 pm
onwards. Many NIPM Members in and around Calicut attended the
said programme.
Mr. Saju Sam Kurivilla, HR Head of Baby
Memorial Hospital, Calicut was one of the Speakers from NIPM
side. The programme was well received by the participants.

CONCLUSION
We take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all
Members, Organizations and Well wishers who have extended their whole
hearted support and cooperation in making our efforts a grand success.
Our special thanks are due to Chief Executives of various Industrial and
Trade Organizations in the State for their patronage.
The Co-operation received from, the National Office during the year was
very encouraging.
We also acknowledge with gratitude, the commitment of the Chairmen
and members of various sub-committees.
We also thank NIPM Groups under Kerala Chapter at Palakkad, Calicut,
Kottayam, Alappuzha & Infopark (IT/ITES) for their active contributions
and support in making Kerala Chapter vibrant.
Our report for the year under report will be incomplete if we fail to
specially mention pivotal role-played by the Fellows and Senior Members
of NIPM Kerala Chapter and we sincerely thank them for their illustrious
contributions through out the years. We also expect same spirit and
cooperation in our future endeavors too.
