STEPMT Meeting Notes, Monday, October 11, 2004 I. Budget Update a. Indirect Monies. Ginger spoke with Jeannie Paul after the meeting and we are under the old rules. Thus 20% will go to the College, Department (split 4 ways) and Project Team (split 4 ways) b. Meeting with Margie Fanning (Ginger will keep working to set up this meeting) c. Contract for Kathy. Andri will resend the example contract document. Ginger will ask Kathy is $1000 for each visit plus expenses will be acceptable payment. Ginger will work on the contract with Margie Fanning. Ginger will send a draft to the team by Wed. October 13. We will have the contract for Kathy to sign when she visits. II. Administrative Assistant Position a. Feedback on draft of Job Functions Questionnaire. Ginger will compile the feedback and send the revision out to the PI team. III. Teaching/Learning Seminar a. CUR Panel is now in place (and willing to serve as back-up for Oct seminar) b. Amy and Michael glad to present in the Spring c. Nov 17th T/L seminar ideas (Summer UR Opportunities) Ginger will contact Becky Seipelt (bio) and also Chuck Higgins as faculty to present at this talk. Chuck about UR summer opps at places like NASA and Becky about Internships. Ginger (or Andri?) will open the session with general info. Ginger will also contact students (Mark Durett, Alice Quan, Brett Harris, Juliann Donahou (aerospace) and Trevor ______ (LSAMP) to present) Students will speak from 3-5 minutes each. d. Student session for Summer UR Opportunities (Nov 17 at 5pm, DSB 106) Andri will make a flyer for the this event. Ginger will spread the word in the math dept. Bill will focus on Physics. We will have the chairs spread the word in other depts. We want to advertise to all depts. We will use indirect funds from the grant for Pizza. e. Update on Laboratory Internship presentation ideas Ginger will talk to Judy B. about presenting at this seminar (probably after Kathy’s visit) Tom will talk to George Murphy about the possibility of Judy B. developing a joint Lab internship with Bio & chem. IV. Dr. Kathy Whately, External Evaluator Visit (pronounced like “what”) a. Schedule given out at meeting (Tom, Bill and Andri will send any changes to the schedule by Wed at noon.) Brad will attend the sessions and help Ginger with Pizzas at the T/L Seminar. Ginger will ask with Diane W. to order the pizzas. b. Before Kathy’s visit Ginger will check with Kathy to see what we need to do. Ginger will send Kathy the 13 point STEPMT letter that Tom sent to faculty (check to get most up to date version from Brad) Ginger will talk to Kathy about the contract. Note: Kathy should not have to pay for meals while she is here. If you pay for her meal, save your receipt. c. Other ? Note: we will need to complete an IRB for this project. Discussed some of the data collection issue Andri, can you send a copy of your NMR assessment attitude survey to Ginger? We need to collect baseline data (perhaps attitude for DBL classes, student graduate/retention data, …) Ginger needs to make a list of the data that needs collecting in terms of graduation/retention, .. a focus report can be set up for this. V. STEPMT Website: Tom is going to work on getting a student to design a logo. Tom and Andri had some good ideas for the logo. VI. Tom’s To Do List Tom is working to schedule a college wide STEPMT celebration. It will be 3:30-4:30 probably on a Monday afternoon in early Nov. We need to work on Internships for the summer. We need 2 or 3 more. We need to work on specifying proposal process for Summer Research Teams. VII. Other Business: some other items discussed a. Research Seminar Maybe have a “punch card” system and students are required to attend x out of y number of seminars. b. Summer Research Teams Develop Application criteria Meet with Joe Nunly Need a flyer to advertise (Ginger, student worker) c. Internships (summer) Team needs to get a list of funded internships. We need to send an email to chairs.
