Showers on Lancing Beach Lancing Parish Council is pleased to announce that it is to be the recipient of an award from Tesco, under its Bags of Help initiative, to provide showers on the beach at Beach Green in Lancing. The public will now be asked to vote to determine the amount of that award. Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge. Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. The award will provide cold water showers, which will be available, free of charge, to all users of the beach and located behind the refreshment kiosk in the swim zone at Beach Green. Lancing is home to a number of water based activities, which in addition to swimming, includes sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing and is home to the Lancing Kitesurfing Club, one of largest clubs in the popular and fast growing sport of kitesurfing. Lancing is becoming renowned as the premier kitesurfing location in the UK and the Lancing Kitesurfing Club will again stage one of the three legs of the British Kite Surfing Championships at Beach Green this year. The award will provided facilities to ‘shower down’ after water based activities, which will help to reduce any threat from pollutants that may exist from time to time in the sea. Please vote in-store for this project at your Tesco Locals in Worthing between 27th February and 6th March.
