Record neatly and clearly in your Data section. Make sure the detector and the integrator are on. Determine the column (port) into which you are to inject your sample. Check the syringe to be sure the plunger moves easily. (If not, clean it with acetone at the sink.) Take up an amount of your sample in the syringe. Make sure there are no bubbles or air space. Reduce the volume to ~0.5 to 1.0 microliter. Read the syringe carefully! Inject the sample quickly and smoothly through the septum. Immediately hit the “start” button. When you determine that the run is complete, push the stop button on the integrator and wait. Label that data with the type of distillation, the vial # from your distillation, and your name. Print the chromatogram. Be sure you can determine both the theoretical plates and the resolution from your collected data. Run the remaining samples in the same way. Be sure to clean the syringe for the next lab. Attach the integrator printouts to your notebook using either tape or glue (no staples or paperclips, please).
