Member Mechanical, Railway Board flagged-off new type WDP4B Hotel Load Locomotive ‘Prateek’ on Golden Jubilee of DLW Shri Alok Johari, Member Mechanical, Railway Board flagged-off flower bedecked new type 4500 HP Hotel Load Diesel Locomotive WDP4B ‘Prateek’ decorated in resplendent colour scheme and DLW built first 2600 HP locomotive WDM2 has decommissioned locomotive now and ‘Kundan’ (This 50-year-old been is a permanent exhibit at DLW.) in a grand ceremony held at workshop, on the concluding function of Golden Jubilee Year of DLW on 03rd January, 2014. On this occasion, flagging-off these locomotives he performed rituals and thereafter he inspected the driver cab of ‘Prateek’ locomotive along with Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager, Shri Rakesh Vatash, Chief Mechanical Engineer and other officers. Congratulating the DLW officers, supervisors and employees on the concluding function of Golden Jubilee Year, Shri Johari said that today DLW has completed fifty glorious years of its production. Today we have flagged off two locomotives, in which one locomotive ‘Kundan’ symbolise the end of an era, while the other locomotive ‘Prateek’ shows a new beginning. DLW built first locomotive ‘Kundan’ reflects the past of DLW, whereas locomotive ‘Prateek’ is a symbol of modern age. On this occasion, expressing his views Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager gave away the whole credit of DLW’s progress and development to the former General Managers and Principal Officers of DLW attending the function and said that DLW built first 2600 HP ALCO locomotive in 1964. By day-by-day progress, at present DLW is producing different types of High Horse Power locomotives equipped with most modern facilities. The hotel load locomotive ‘Prateek’, which is flagged off today, is a series production of HHP locomotives. Welcoming the Member Mechanical, guests, officers and employees Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Rakesh Vatash focussed upon the production activities and breakthrough of DLW. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri K.B.Sahay, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Production and Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme efficiently. Existing EOG train power supply is through two Power Cars (containing DG sets). DLW’s new locomotive design provides 500 KVA train power supply load. Locomotive eliminates one power car, allows to add one more coach in lieu. Results in improved overall efficiency, reliability, fuel efficiency, economics and passenger accommodation. This locomotive is equipped with compact roof mounted air conditioning unit driver cab, heated wind shield technology, in-built wash facility, new design pneumatically operated wiper assembly, LED based focussed cab light with dimming feature, Ergonomically designed driver cab seat with height adjustment, lumbar support, seat tilt and breathing upholstery. To mark the Golden Jubilee Year celebration, plethora of programmes were organised at DLW, in which a seminar on “Future Trends in Diesel Locomotives” was organised in Technical Training Centre Auditorium on 02nd and 03rd January. The Ex. Member Mechanicals of Railway board Ex. General Managers/Principal Officers and of DLW along with DLW officers and major suppliers attended this seminar, who expressed their views and put up their presentations regarding the future prospects, developments and innovations in diesel locomotives. Besides a two-day colourful cultural programme was also organised at Rangshala in which on 02 nd January DLW artists presented a colourful cultural variety programme of Geet, Gazal, Bhajan and Dance. On 03rd January a troop of Rajsthani artists presented an eye catching programme of Rajsthani Folk Dances and songs. Both the cultural programmes were highly appreciated by the viewers. The Golden Jubilee Year celebration concluded on 04th January with the inauguration of newly established Computerised Railway Passenger Reservation System (Cash PRS) at Central Market by Shri Alok Johari, Member Mechanical, Railway Board, as a gift of the Golden Jubilee Year to the DLW employees and the people of adjacent areas. 70th All India Railway Football Championship at DLW Under the auspices of DLW Sports Association 70 th All India Railway Football Championship was organised from 20 th September to 01st October (group-‘C’ and ‘D’ league matches) at DLW Stadium. It was inaugurated by CME Shri Rakesh Vatash introducing with the members of the teams, participating in the championship and kicked the football. On this occasion, CME Shri Vatash and CQAM Shri A.K.Sharma unfured the Railway Sports Promotion Board’s and DLW Sports Association’s flags respectively. Sham-e-Gazal To commemorate the Golden Jubilee Year of DLW, a cultural programme “Sham-E-Gazal” was organised under the joint auspices of DLW Cultural Association, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Bhartiya Lalit Kala Academy on 18th September at Auditorium (Cinema Hall). The renowned gazal singer Shri Krishnanand and group of Lucknow presented a heart throbbing programme of gazal and enthralled the audience. Earlier, Shri Rakesh Vatash, CME, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, CPO, Smt. Lata Vatash, Vice Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation, Shri Anurag Thakur, Director, ICCR and Shri Krishnanand inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp jointly. Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways, Govt. of India flagged-off First Dual Cab 4500 HP Locomotive ‘VIJAY’ Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways, Govt. of India flagged-off First Dual Cab 4500 HP Freight Diesel Locomotive WDG4D ‘VIJAY’ in a grand ceremony at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi on 06th November, 2013. On this occasion, before flagging-off the flower bedecked locomotive decorated in resplendent colour scheme, he performed rituals along with Shri Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board, Shri B.P.Khare, General Manager and other officers. On this occasion expressing happiness over the performance of DLW, Hon’ble Railway Minister said that it is not only in the area of production that DLW is creating new milestones. Keeping in mind the requirement of Zonal Railways, DLW has also delivered In the area of technology upgradation and designing of new variants of locomotives. Be it Dual cab passenger locomotive WDP4D, Hotel load locomotive, 5500 Horse power locomotive WDG5 and now the first ever Dual cab diesel freight locomotive WDG4D, DLW has always lived-up to it's promise. The very fact that the design of WDG4D is a completely indigenous effort of DLW and RDSO. On this occasion, Hon’ble Minster announced the stoppage of Swatantrata Senani Express at Bhulanpur Rly. Station, Sub-way at DLW Admn. Building Railway Crossing and opening of a PRS at DLW with cash transaction as well as ` 20 lakh group award for DLW employees. On this occasion, expressing his view Shri Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board said that DLW has not only increased its production in large but also developed latest stateof-the-art technologies. Building of this WDG4D High Horse Power freight locomotive is a wonderful breakthrough not only for DLW but for Indian Railways and the country also. Welcoming the Hon’ble Minister along with guests, officers and employees General Manager Shri B.P.Khare focussed upon the achievements of DLW in locomotive production and future prospects. Where, he keenly inspected locomotive manufacturing process and ongoing projects in different shops. He also inspected the the WDG4D locomotive no.12681. During the inspection, Shri Kharge discussed with General Manager Shri Khare and CME Shri Vatash on various technical issues. This 4500 HHP locomotive no 12681 is being pressed in to service at Sabermati Diesel Shed of Western Railway. This locomotive is equipped with special feature like two driver cabins with full width control console in each cabin, DIALS based TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display, air conditioned cabin, microprocessor controlled break, EODM (Ethylene Propylene Di Monomer) cable sealing system, task lighting for crew comfort, balancing speed of 82 kmph with 59 BOXN load on level track etc. It is expeted that WDG4D Locomotive with its high performace will meet out the growing freight transportation needs of the country and fetch more revenue for Indian Railways. On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister met Shri Amar Singh, Joint Secy., Staff Council & members as well as the representatives of other employees associations and office bearers of SC/ST/OBC Association and received memorandum from them. High Horse PowerBulk Indent Meeting at DLW To discuss the requirement of Zonal Railways for imported and indigenous vital spares for the year 2015-2016, Annual High Horse Power-Bulk Indent Meeting was organised at DLW on 06th & 07th September. Senior Mechanical and Stores Officers of Zonal Railways, RDSO and Railway Board attended the meeting. Shri B.P.Khare, General Manager presided over the meeting. Shri Hemant Member/Production Unit, Kumar, Shri Additional D.K. Jain, Advisor/Railway Stores/P, Railway Board, Shri Rajiv Bishnoi, Senior Executive Director/Motive Power, RDSO, Mechanical Controller of Stores, DLW, Shri Vivek Kumar, Shri Rakesh Engineer, Executive Vatash, Shri Director, Chief S.P.Piplani, Mechanical Engineering/Traction, Railway Board and other officers addressed the meeting. During the two-day meeting, the demand and supply of spare parts, warranty claims and various technical issues related to high horse power locomotives were discussed with Zonal Railways. Independence Day celebration at DLW 67th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August, 2013 at Basketball Ground with colourful cultural programme presented by children of DLW based schools. The programme started with the hoisting of National Flag by GM Shri B.P.Khare, followed by inspecting parade. On this occasion, focusing the contribution and sacrifices of freedom fighters towards the independence of the country Shri Khare highlighted the production and other activities of DLW including achievements of all the departments of DLW. The programme concluded with the distribution of fruit packets to the indoor patients of DLW Central Hospital by Shri Khare, GM, Smt. Ranjana Khare, Chairperson DLW Women's Welfare Organisation & members, principal officers and Members of Staff Council. On this occasion chief guest Shri Khare also inaugurated the newly built fountains at Surya Sarovar and near the Kaveri Primery School at West Township. Special Achievements of DLW Sports Association Showing outstanding performance in games amongst all the production units in the year 2012-13 by winning the overall championship in various games, DLW received Varanasi Cup consecutive second time from Hon’ble Minister of Railways. Km. Rani Yadav won gold medal in women’s 20 km walk event in 79 th All India Railway Athletics Championship held at New Delhi from 05 th to 07th August. She also won bronze medal in 20 km walk event in 53rd Senior Open National Athletics Championship held at Ranchi from 07th to 10th September. Under the auspices of Eastern Railway Sports Association, Kumar Yadav won gold and Shri Abhishek Kumar won silver meter spring board event in 54th All India Railway Aquatic Championship held at Kolkata from 21st to 24th August. Shri Navin medal in 3 Chairman, Railway Board flagged off DLW built 1000th High Horse Power Locomotive Shri Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board flagged off 1000 th High Horse Power Diesel locomotive at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi in a grand ceremony on 10 th July, 2013. On this occasion, before flagging-off the flower bedecked locomotive decorated in resplendent colour scheme he performed rituals along with Shri B.P.Khare, Vatash, General Chief Manager Mechanical and Manager. Shri Rakesh Earlier, he inspected the locomotive and its driver cab along with Shri B.P.Khare, General Manager, Shri K.K.Atal, General Manager, NER, Shri R. Vishnoi, Senior Managing Director / Motive Power, RDSO, Shri Rakesh Vatash, Chief Mechanical Manager and other officers. Expressing his views Hon’ble Chairman said that first time I came to DLW in 1976. Since then, DLW has not only increased its production in large but also developed latest stateof-the-art technologies. The assimilation of new technologies in diesel locomotives has become work culture of DLW. Building of 1000 High Horse Power locomotives in such a short span of time is also a wonderful breakthrough. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chairman announced the stoppage of Patna Secunderabad Express at Bhulanpur Rly. Station at DLW from 15th of July as well as declared ` 25 lakh group award for DLW employees on behalf of Railway Minister. On this occasion, lauding the working and efficiency of officers and employees of DLW, Shri B.P. Khare, GM said that the first ALCO locomotive was rolled out from DLW in 1964, thereafter, 1000th such type of locomotive was built in 1977, it took 13 years span of time. Whereas building of first HHP loco in 2002, today after a short span of time of 11 years, we are going to dedicate 1000 th such type of locomotive in the service of the nation. Welcoming the guests Shri Rakesh Vatash, CME said that starting the manufacture of High Horse Power locomotives in the year 2001, DLW manufactured 380 HHP locomotives in 2010 and 581 HHP locomotives from 2010 to March 2013. Going through the month-wise production, we found 20 to 25 such type of locomotives are being manufactured per month. We don’t believe in number, we believe in quality. We equipped our locomotives with latest technologies like- dual-cab, air-conditioner, heater, disk-break, LED lighting etc. We are also in efforts to provide toilets in the locomotives very soon. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri K.B.Sahay, CME/P and Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme very efficiently. This 1000 th HHP locomotive no 40122 was pressed in to service at Tughlakabad Diesel Shed of Northern Railway. Earlier, Hon’ble Chairman inaugurated the New Turbo Supercharger Assembly Shop and Newly Turbo Supercharger Overhauling facility. By this new facility, DLW will be able to overhaul turbochargers of Zonal Railways also. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chairman met Shri Amar Singh, Joint Secy., Staff Council & members as well as the representatives of other employees associations and office bearers of SC/ST/OBC Association and received memorandum from them. Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony at DLW 57th Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony was organised on 13 th April at DLW Auditorium (Cinema Hall). On this occasion Shri B.P.Khare, General Manager gave away awards to 110 meritorious officers, supervisors and employees for their commendable performances in their respective fields during the year 2011-12. Speaking on this occasion Shri Khare felicitated employees, supervisors and officers, who won the awards for their achievements in various spheres. Shri Khare said that in today’s global scenario; the demand of High Horse Power (HHP) locomotives is increasing. To meet this demand, DLW is continuously increasing the production of HHP locomotives year by year. In the year 2011-12, we set a new record by producing 190 HHP locomotives, which is 40 locomotives more than the last year’s production. He further added that recently DLW manufactured a prototype 5500 HHP locomotive, which will be proved more efficient and useful in freight purpose for Indian Railways. Besides, DLW also produced 230 Blocks, 241 Engines as well as 69 ALCO design locomotives in 2011-12. Highlighting the achievements of DLW in marketing field, Shri Khare said that in this area DLW is scaling new heights every year. This year DLW had successfully supplied 42 locomotives to Non-Railway customers including 03 locomotives exported to Sri Lanka, which is 07 locomotives more in comparison of last year and earned a revenue of ` 338.06 crores. In addition, DLW earned a revenue of ` 15.06 crores from the sale of spare parts to Non- Railway Customers. During the year supply order for 52 locomotives worth ` 445.45 crores has also been received from NRCs. At present, DLW has secured purchase orders for supply of 42 locomotives including 16 from Sri Lanka & Bangladesh worth ` 359.72 crores and spare parts worth ` 12.26 crores from Non-Railway customers, which is to be supplied in the year 2012-13. Earlier, welcoming the guests, Chief Public Relations Officer Shri Shivendra Mohan, highlighted the glorious history of Indian Railways and said that Indian Railways had started their spectacular journey from Mumbai to Thane and covered a distance of 34 kilometers on 16th April, 1853. To commemorate this glorious moment Railway Week Celebration is organised in Indian Railways every year from 10 th to 16th April. Rails has also witnessed the every moment and event of our country’s freedom struggle. Today Indian Railways has completed 159 years of that historical journey and the developmental journey of Railways is still continued without break. Now, we have dreamt of Vision-2020 for the development of Indian Railways. Congratulating the DLW employees he said that Railways are lifeline of our country and our DLW made locos vitalise this lifeline. Earlier, the function started with the lighting of lamp by Shri Khare, GM, Shri Rakesh Vatash, CME and other HODs jointly. Thereafter, Km. Ritika Das presented dance on Ganesh Vandana. DLW turned out 190th High Horse Power loco of the financial year Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi turned out its 190th High Horse Power (HHP) locomotive of the financial year 2011-12, which is the highest ever production of HHP locos in the annals of DLW. Shri B.P.Khare, General Manager flagged off this flower bedecked and painted in resplendent colour scheme loco on 31st March, 2012 with performing rituals in a simple ceremony held at Loco Assembly Shop. Speaking on this occasion, Shri Khare said that I am very happy to flag-off the last locomotive of the year 2011-12. It is matter of great pride that to meet the increasing demand of HHP locomotives for Indian Railways, this year we have produced 190 HHP locomotives. He also called upon the employees to get ready to produce the 250 HHP locomotives in the year 2012-13. Earlier, welcoming the officers and employees Shri Vivek Kumar, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Production highlighted the production activities and breakthroughs achieved by DLW during the year. He said that besides of highest ever production of HHP locomotives, DLW showed a significant increase in the engines and blocks production in 2011-12. In comparison of the production of 239 engines and 223 blocks in last financial year, DLW produced 245 engines and 230 blocks this year. On this occasion, General Manager also declared a group award of ` 50,000/- for DLW employees and ` 2000/- for the crew members of the locomotive. S/Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO, L.B.Rai, CPO, Arun Kumar Sharma, CMgM, Ramji Mehrotra, CEE and other HODs, officers, employees and Shri Chhote Lal, Joint Secy., Staff Council & members attended this function in a large number. Conference of Chief Mechanical Engineers of Indian Railways at DLW Conference of Chief Mechanical Engineers of Indian Railways was organised at Diesel Locomotive Works on 24th & 25th February at Hall of Fame. On 24th February, addressing the conference, Hon’ble Member Mechanical/Railway expressed happiness Board over Shri the Sanjiv Handa manufacturing of prototype 5500 HP WDG-5 locomotive. Congratulating the General Manager Shri B.P.Khare and officers & employees, he said that this much awaited locomotive is also a major breakthrough for Indian Railways. He said that officers of Mechanical Department get more to see, understand and learn in DLW and hoped that this conference would prove beneficial for them. Welcoming the CMEs, General Manager Shri B.P.Khare said that DLW is a main supplier of diesel locomotives to Zonal Railways and hoped that it would succeed in manufacturing 250 high horse power locomotives in 2012-13. He urged the Chief Mechanical Engineers of the Zonal Railways that they increase the facilities in their respective railways for the maintenance of these locomotives in accordance with the growing production of high horse power locomotives. In this conference, S/Shri S.K.Sharma, AM/PU, R.Vijay Mohan, AM/ME, Shubhranshu, EDME/TR and A.Agarwal EDME/FR also expressed his views. Conducting the conference, Shri R.Vatash, CME, DLW apprised about the DLW’s activities, products and ongoing projects to the CMEs. Through presentation Shri Amit Agarwal, Chief Design Engineer apprised about the manufacturing process of 5500 high horse power locomotives to delegates. All the CMEs of Zonal Railways and Senior Mechanical Officers of Rly.Bd. & RDSO participated in this conference and discussed about the modernisation of loco sheds and maintenance facilities of rolling items in Indian Railways. On this occasion Member Mechanical Shri Sanjiv Handa and officers of Rly.Bd. inspected the workshop along with CME Shri R.Vatash, CME/P Shri Vivek Kumar and other officers. During his inspection Shri Handa also inspected the newly built prototype 5500 HHP diesel locomotive.
