Topic: Our Sporting Lives
Lesson:33
Lesson aims: By the end of this lesson you will be able to say 8 sports that
you play or do.
Starter: start with either a simple brain gym activity (res 33.1) or heads
shoulders knees and toes to get the children warmed up. Ask them why we do
activities like these.
Activity:
Learning
1.Do the action for je joue au football from unit 3 and see if objectives:
the children can remember the phrase. Introduce the phrases
je joue au tennis/cricket/rugby either with
flashcards(res.33.2) or with actions.
2. Introduce other sports in the same way: je fais du vélo/du
skate/de la danse/de la natation.
You may point out here that the pictures are colour coded so
the noun is le tennis, le skate, la natation.
3. Model actions for sports and say phrases. Children repeat
and copy the actions.
4.Say the word and children do the action. Play Jacques a dit.
5.Show the word flashcards for the sports. See what
similarities the children notice with the English forms.
6.Ask the children to come out and match the word cards to
the pictures .
7.Leave the word cards on the board and place the letters for
je joue au cricket on the board.(res 33.4) Ask children to
unscramble the sentence and write their answer on a
whiteboard or paper. Replace cricket with another ball sport.
Do the same with a couple of the je fais phrases.
Remove the word cards and leave the jumble letters of je
joue and je fais on the board. Place another jumbled sport
next to them and ask the children to look at the sport first
and unscramble it, decide whether it uses je joue or je fais
(ball sports – je joue) and then decide if it is followed by au if
it is je joue or du if it is je fais followed by a male word or de
la if it is je fais and a female word. This is tricky but they do

play musical statues. When the music stops you call out a phrase and they
freeze in this position. They are out if they wobble.
Divide the class into groups and give each group a sport for which they must
make a tableau. Each child has to be involved. Give the class a countdown in
French from 10 – 0. On zero each group freezes it’s tableau.
