POSTGRADUATE FLEXIBLE LEARNING FUNDING SCHEME GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION FORMS AIM: The aim of this funding scheme is to support strategic innovation in postgraduate coursework programs designed and delivered in flexible learning modes. PURPOSE OF GRANTS: This funding scheme will provide assistance with flexible learning curriculum design or redesign and incorporation of innovative teaching and learning materials, including multimedia resources (where appropriate), in existing or new postgraduate coursework programs. Funding will be provided through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) to support innovation through access to instructional design support and assistance with creation of resources. It is expected that this central funding support will be matched by the Faculty or Faculties in which the program is located. FUNDING: The funding will provide up to a maximum of $10,000 per course to support a team of teaching and learning staff to develop and implement a flexible teaching and learning strategy in a postgraduate coursework program. CONDITIONS: 1. The projects selected will have a ‘program’ focus, comprising a related set of courses which together develop or contribute to the development of a whole program (eg not less than four courses comprising a Graduate Certificate). This program emphasis must be demonstrated through each phase of development. 2. A maximum of 2 projects per Faculty will be considered for development. 3. The Stage 1 submission is to be completed using the Application Form proforma. 4. Those projects selected will engage in a full flexible learning curriculum development process with a TEDI educational design team. 5. If the project involves the development of web-based course management system the application software to be used will be WebCT. The site will operate on a central University server. 6. The projects will be managed by a program team which will meet periodically to maintain a team focus. A project leader must be nominated from within the program team to be responsible for the overall progress of the project. 7. The Project leader will be required to provide periodic progress reports and the project team to present the results of their innovations at a wrap-up workshop and at TEDI Teaching and Innovation Showcases. CRITERIA: Essential: Extent and quality of proposed enhancement to flexibility of offerings for students and to their teaching and learning outcomes An indication of how the program will be maintained and funded in future years A description of the student body and why this program will meet their needs. The extent to which the project is strategically important to the Faculty Desirable: Extent to which the program brings together input from more than one School or Faculty PROCESS: STAGE 1: Application forms will be sent out by the end of September, 2003 An information seminar will be held on 10 October, 2003, providing information on the granting process, an indication of the amount of work involved in a flexible learning innovation, and an overview of the educational design assistance provided by TEDI throughout the process. TEDI is available to assist Faculties to develop their Stage 1 submissions. Application forms will be submitted by the end of November, 2003 A shortlisting process will select the projects to proceed by the middle of December, 2003. STAGE 2: A workshop for successful applicants will be held in February 2004 to introduce team members to their TEDI Educational Design team and to provide more detailed information on the scoping process. Projects selected for further development will work with a TEDI Educational Design team to produce a full scope document and budget, with timelines. This stage is to be completed by the start of Semester 2, 2004. STAGE 3: The project team will work to complete the project, ready for implementation in 2005.
