Connecticut Judicial Marshal Academy Pre-Service Training Program Initial Review: June 20, 2008 It is the mission of the Judicial Marshal Services to provide the Connecticut Judicial Marshal system with a safe and secure environment in an impartial, courteous and professional manner, through the utilization of highly motivated personnel committed to a superior level of service. As the uniformed division of the Judicial Branch, the Judicial Marshal is trained not only as a peace officer, as defined in the Connecticut General Statute 53a-3(9) but also as a correctional officer to perform duties in housing and transporting prisoners. At the request of the Judicial Marshal Academy, assessment of the Judicial Marshal Pre-Service Training Program was conducted by Charter Oak State College on June 20, 2008. Basic) NOTE: requires completion of Field Training component. Location: Judicial Marshal Training Center, Hartford, CT and various sites Length: 314 hours of training, including 130 lab, 160 Field Training, 24 classroom Date: June, 2003 – June, 2013 Field experience incorporating classroom and lab instruction with supervised on-the-job practice. Introduction to Security Methods (3 cr. Basic) Location: Judicial Marshal Training Center, Hartford, CT and various sites Length: 49 hours including 27 classroom and 22 lab hours Date: June, 2003 – June, 2013 Supervised field experience in court security. Topics include Metal detector and X-ray monitor, lock-up issues, management of aggressive behavior, fire safety and related issues. Emphasis placed on practical application of instruction in the field. Legal Aspects of Court Security (3 cr. Basic) Location: Judicial Marshal Training Center, Hartford, CT and various sites Length: 52 hours of classroom training Date: June, 2003 – June, 2013 Survey of the basic legal principles affecting court security officers. Topics include arrest, search and seizure, penal code, use of force and rights of the accused, and related issues.
