Connectivity for Dot-Matrix Printers
TCP/IP via a Print Server which Supports Telnet and LPD/LPR is required.
This method of connectivity requires that the printer have a print server. Some printers
are available with a built-in print server and some require an external print server: For
the printer to be certified it must be connected to one of the certified print servers

HP Jetdirect 500x (Ethernet Model)*
HP Jetdirect 300
HP Jetdirect 170
*TradePoint recommends this print server as being best for our software. TradePoint sells this
printer server for Customers purchasing a Printer from TradePoint that does not have a built-in
print server.
Twinax Connectivity (IBM Only)
This method of connectivity is direct. In this case the printer will not need a print server.
Serial connection to a Dec Terminal Server (Compaq (/Dec) Only)
This method of connectivity is direct. In this case the printer will not need a print server.
Laser Printer Connectivity Options
Any Laser printer that is compatible with HP 4 printers, uses PCL 5 emulation and uses the
graphical language GL2 has a high probability of passing certification.

Printek printers can be purchased with internal print servers, we suggest using the HP jet direct
print servers in place of the internal print servers.
The above printers are subject to change and additions. In the event a new model becomes
available and is sold, or the customer purchases the new model independently, the printer should
be sent to TradePoint for certification, as described below.
The following two dot-matrix printers are in use by customers. However, the printers have not yet
been certified. If a customer requires to use either of these two printers they should be sent to
TradePoint for certification as per the instructions below.

Certification Process
TradePoint is willing to attempt to certify any printer or print server that a customer or prospect
wishes to use provided it meets the criteria set out in this document.

The customer should ship and insure, at their expense, one device of each model to
TradePoint, with all manuals and other documentation. Certification cannot be attempted
without the documentation.

In the event the certification process cannot be completed within the four hours the customer
will be contacted and apprised of the estimated time to complete the certification process. The
time expended in excess of the four hours will be billed to the customer at the current, normal
billing rate of $150 per hour.

If in TradePoint’s view the printer or print server cannot be certified within a reasonable time
the customer will be informed of what the issues are and the printer will be returned to the
customer.

Printers and print servers will be returned to customers at TradePoint’s expense.

The customer or prospect should expect a turn-around time for the device of two weeks.
Once a device is certified the settings will be printed and filed. TradePoint will also attempt to
obtain a manual for this device for the Support Library. If training of internal staff is needed for this
device, it will be done before returning the device to the customer. Every attempt will be made to
train and demonstrate the specific features of the device to all members of the Installation,
Training, and Support Groups. Once a device passes certification it will be added to the Supported
list for reference.

Adding Certified Devices to the System
Configuring print servers and printers for a network is the function of a customer’s systems
administrator.
If the customer has an administrator on staff they may connect and configure these devices on
their own.
For customers with no internal systems administrator they can contract a third party to do this work
or contract TPS to remotely assist. Configuration of print servers and printers require a 2 hour
minimum on a T&M charge.
