News For immediate release 14 December 2011 Tata Motors expands market with “TATA Novus” tractor trailer “TATA Star Bus CNG” debuts at Bus & Truck 2011 Bangkok – Tata Motors sets the benchmark in Thailand’s large commercial vehicle segment with the official introduction of the “TATA Novus” tractor trailer. The “TATA Novus” features two fuel systems to choose from with a 420 hp diesel model and 340 hp CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). Another first for Thailand’s commercial vehicle market will be the debut of the “TATA Starbus CNG” at the Bus & Truck 2011 event which will be staged at the Bitec Bang-na center from December 15-17, 2011. Tata Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd is driving its business growth in Thailand’s large commercial vehicle segment with the introduction of the “TATA Novus” tractor trailer and “TATA Starbus CNG” bus. The “TATA Novus” tractor trailer and “TATA Starbus CNG” bus will have their official product launchings in Thailand at the Bus & Truck 2011 event held at the Bitec center, Bang-na from December 15-17, 2011. News The “TATA Novus” has two fuel systems to choose from: 1) the Novus DLE 6-cylinder turbo-diesel intercooler with engine displacement of 10,964cc is capable of 420hp at 1,800rpm and 1,834 Nm at 1,100 rpm, mated to a 16-speed transmission and equipped with state-of-the-art Jake Brake system 2) the Novus CNG variant is powered by a true Compressed Natural Gas 6-cylinder engine with turbo-diesel technology mated to a 10-speed transmission and is capable of maximum output of 340hp at 2,100rpm and 1,372 Nm at 1,260rpm, equipped with eight 164liter CNG tanks made in Italy and built to international standards. The 1st generation TATA Novus was launched in 2004 through the joint development between Tata Motors and South Korea-based Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles, shortly after Tata Motors acquired Daewoo’s commercial vehicle unit. The “TATA Novus” enjoyed positive market gains in South Korea, and in 15 other export destinations. The Novus design delivers classleading performance, comfort amenities, ergonomic design and functionality for the driver and enhancing safety and control of the vehicle. Abhichet noted that Tata Motors’ market expansion in the large commercial vehicle segment of Thailand was based on good market growth. The “TATA Starbus CNG” is a 32-34 seater mass transit available in 2 models: Semi Low Floor LPO 1623 CNG Bus rated at 230hp at 2,800 rpm and 678 Nm of torque at only 1,600 rpm, while the second version is the more potent Low Entry EPO 1625 CNG capable of 250hp at 2,400 rpm and 895Nm of torque at only 1,400 rpm.
