BAB I
PENDAHULUAN
A. DESKRIPSI
Modul yang berjudul “Expressing Sympathy” ini adalah modul ke 18
dalam level novice yang harus dipelajari oleh siswa SMK. Modul ini
berisikan tentang cara menyatakan simpati dalam bahasa Inggris
dengan situasi yang sesuai baik situasi resmi maupun situasi tidak
resmi. Modul ini sebagai prasyarat bagi modul berikutnya, dan sebagai
lanjutan dari modul A.17/ 04. Setelah menyelesaikan modul ini, siswa
diharapkan dapat melakukan percakapan dalam bahasa Inggris
mengenai ungkapan simpati sesuai dengan situasi dan kondisi.
Subkompetensi ini sangat membantu ketrampilan berkomunikasi dalam
dunia kerja.
B. PRASYARAT
Sebelum mempelajari modul ini, anda harus telah menyelesaikan
modul A.17/ 04 yang berisikan tentang cara mengungkapkan
penyesalan dan permintaan maaf/ Expressing Regrets and Apologies.
C. PETUNJUK PENGGUNAAN MODUL
C.1 Panduan Bagi Siswa
Sebelum memulai menggunakan modul ini, anda harus membaca
petunjuk yang diberikan untuk meyakinkan bahwa anda tahu
langkah-langkah yang harus ditempuh. Apabila ada hal-hal yang
kurang jelas silahkan bertanya kepada guru pembimbing.
C.2 Peran Guru
Dalam menggunakan modul ini, guru membimbing siswa dan
memantau pencapaian proses belajar siswa. Guru menetapkan waktu
untuk pengujian setelah menyelesaikan modul ini.
D. TUJUAN AKHIR
Berdasarkan situasi yang diberikan, anda dapat mempraktekkan
percakapan secara berpasangan tentang cara menyampaikan simpati
sesuai dengan situasi dan kondisi.
E. KOMPETENSI
Kompetensi yang ingin dicapai melalui modul ini adalah kompetensi
dasar pada level novice dengan subkompetensi “Expressing Sympathy”

Apakah kamu dapat melakukan percakapan sederhana berdasarkan

1. Someone told you that your friend has to stay in a hospital for a
week because of the typhus.
2. A friend told you that your neighbour died in a car accident.
3. You are told that your teacher wins a competition as one of the
best teacher.
Apabila anda merasa tidak dapat melakukan percakapan seperti yang
diminta di atas, anda harus mempelajari modul A.18/ 04 ini. Apabila
anda sudah dapat memperagakan percakapan di atas, maka anda
dapat mengajukan untuk uji subkompetensi ini kepada guru
pembimbing.

dalam bahasa Inggris sangat bervariasi sesuai dengan situasinya baik dalam
situasi resmi maupun tidak resmi. Perhatikan dengan teliti perbedaannya.
B.2.4 Tugas 2
- Read the dialogue very carefully and then try to answer the
questions that followed.
- Read the dialogues once again and find the words that are
considered unknown to you. Don’t use a dictionary first, but just
guess the meaning from the context given.
- Consult to your partner and then make a little chat about the
dialogue. Tell your opinion and ask your friend opinions. If
necessary, you can report it to other friends.
- In case for a lively class, you may create a role play with your
partner using the expressions of sympathy. Sharing your pair
work to other friends.

A statement adalah pernyataan atau kalimat sederhana sedangkan
Noun clause adalah bagian dari suatu kalimat komplek/ majemuk. “That”
digunakan untuk menggabungkan dua kalimat sederhana. Bagian kalimat
yang diawali oleh “that” disebut noun clause.

mother doesn’t agree with her. She hopes that Titin doesn’t study

secara spontan tanpa ada draft berdasarkan situasi yang diberikan. Hal ini
bertujuan untuk menguji apakah anda sudah menguasai modul ini.

BAB IV
PENUTUP
Setelah menyelesaikan semua tugas dan evaluasi di dalam modul ini
dengan benar, anda dapat melanjutkan ke modul berikutnya, yaitu modul
A.19/ 04. Tetapi apabila anda belum berhasil menguasai modul ini, anda
harus mengulang kembali mempelajari modul ini.
Sebagai indikasi anda telah menguasai modul ini, anda harus dapat
membuat percakapan secara spontan, tanpa draft, sesuai situasi yang
diberikan. Perhatikan juga cara pengucapan dan intonasi yang benar. Guru
pembimbing yang menentukan apakah anda dapat melanjutkan ke modul
berikutnya atau tidak.
