GridSouth, Fort Mill, SC 2001 - 2002 In 2000, CP&L, Duke Energy and SCANA agreed to create a single, stand-alone regional transmission organization (RTO) to comply with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Order 2000. This agreement resulted in the formation of GridSouth, the provisionally Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved RTO for the Carolinas consisting of 22,000 miles of transmission lines connected to approximately 35,500 megawatts of electric generation serving more than 3.75 million customers.
