The Dean’s Student Advisory Committee (DSAC)
As a student in the college, you have an opportunity to be heard and to participate in shaping college
policy. Each month, the dean and/or associate deans meet with representatives of DSAC. We discuss
issues that provide us with a dynamic link to students and their perspectives. We inform students as
to what the Dean’s Office is doing and why.
You are invited to apply to participate in the governance of the college, serve on college academic
committees; and to volunteer for important college activities and events.
If you are interested, please complete the attached application and return it to the address indicated on
the form. If you are currently a member of DSAC, complete the one page application only.
Sincerely,
Neal Van Alfen
Dean

The following questions are designed to help us learn more about you and make the evaluation of your
application as objective as possible. There are no right or wrong answers. Please answer all these questions
thoughtfully and carefully. If additional space is required, attach a separate sheet to the application.
1. Each DSAC representative brings with him/her different experiences, skills, and interests. The role of a
DSAC representative is intentionally unstructured in order to capitalize on the strengths of each
individual. What skills, interests, and ideas do you feel you would bring to the position?
2. An important ingredient for the success of any organization is the level of commitment of its members.
Please comment on the level of your involvement in other campus, high school or community
organizations and how it would affect your commitment as a DSAC representative.
3. One of the primary duties of DSAC members is to provide the dean with views representative of
students within the college. How would you define the role of a representative, including ways to
encourage interest and input on college issues?
4. Do you feel any campus or job-related activities you have had will contribute to your effectiveness as a
DSAC representative? Explain.
