This program offers undergraduate training in broadcasting related programs to college juniors and seniors. Describe Scope of Broadcasters’ Participation (including names of any other sponsoring or participating organizations): October 9, 2013 – Virginia State University – Spoke to a Media Economics class on the business bottom line of modern Broadcast media. WWBT was invited to be a guest professor by an Associate Professor in the Mass Communications and Communications Services department. This program focused on career awareness and planning and what it takes to succeed in college and in a highly competitive marketplace. The students also were able to network with the guest instructors about employment opportunities at WWBT. Station Personnel involved – Vice President & General Manager. January 17, 2014 – Howard University – VP/General Manager met with member of the Howard University staff to review the programs and initiatives Howard University has in place to further educate students about careers in Broadcasting. March 19, 2014 - NBC12/Raycom Media/VCU Career Day - NBC12/Raycom Media and VCU held a Career Day to recruit for Broadcast Sales, News, Marketing/Creative Services positions at our Richmond location and other Raycom owned stations throughout the country. Our goal was to educate students about careers in TV Broadcasting and opportunities within Raycom Media. On-campus recruiting was conducted by Managers from WWBT’s News, Sales, Marketing and Commercial Production departments, the Vice President & General Manager and the Human Resources Director who interviewed students/graduate students (interview times were preset) interested in employment at WWBT or any other Raycom Media stations. WWBT also supplied a list of jobs commonly found at a television station and also material from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters about their various programs such as the job bank and the Summer Internship program. April 3, 2014 - Richmond Public Schools Office of Career and Technical Education’s STEM Today Careers Expo. Spoke with students about careers in broadcasting. Also gave out information about the Virginia Association of Broadcasters about careers in broadcasting and the services thru the VAB’s online job bank and their summer internship program. Motivational guest speaker and a panel member for this symposium. This year’s theme was Projecting Positive Images in Media and Sports.
