Preliminary Events The participants identified themselves and their employers. WG-23 Chair Lawrence Tarbox reminded members that the homework assignment from the last meeting was to provide an expanded assessment for each of the four different technologies that 1 WG-23 (Application Hosting) of the DICOM Standards Committee June 28, 2005_Tcon were selected as worthy of more detailed evaluation during the Group’s last Tcon. The selected technologies were: High Performance Interface – Rob Horn Web Services – Bernard Gibaud Globus Toolkit/Grid – Lawrence Tarbox .NET Architecture – Anand Kumar For this meeting, the purpose was to review the written results produced in response to those assignments. 2. Discussion The following technologies were reviewed in turn: Technology Web Services – Oral presentation only Globus Toolkit/Grid – PowerPoint presentation .NET Architecture – Oral presentation only Discussion Leaders Bernard Gibaud Lawrence Tarbox Anand Kumar Anand Kumar suggested that agreement on what the interfaces should be, particularly for Phase 1, could help guide technology decisions. The members agreed that the desired functionality in the interfaces impacts what technology could be used, but also that the technology selected for describing and possibly implementing the interfaces impacts what kinds of functionality those interfaces could have. The members decided that an iterative approach would be best. Now that the working group has looked at a number of promising technologies, as well as failed technologies to learn lessons from, it is time for the working group to focus on functional descriptions of the interfaces. When the working group has a better idea of what capabilities the interfaces need, they would then revisit the technology discussions. Anand also brought member’s attention to the HL7 standards coming from the Clinical Context Object Workgroup – also known as “CCOW.” The base interfaces in the CCOW standards are described in a technology-neutral fashion, tied to smaller documents that described the coupling of these interfaces to particular technologies. This led to a question regarding the kind of output the DICOM working group will have. The members had previously discussed creating generic descriptions of the interfaces, with potentially multiple language bindings. Anand suggested that the pattern followed by CCOW might be one way to do that. 3. Homework Assignments Dr. Tarbox requested that members prepare their recommendations regarding the specific interfaces that should be pursued in Phase I of this project. This will be the principal topic for discussion at the group’s August 19 – 20, 2005 face-to-face meeting at NEMA. He also reminded them that all written material related to that meeting should be posted to the private ftp site at: ftp://d9-workgrps:goimagego@medical.nema.org/medical/private/dicom/WORKGRPS/WG23/2005/2005-08-19. 2 WG-23 (Application Hosting) of the DICOM Standards Committee June 28, 2005_Tcon 4. Future Meetings Members were reminded of the following dates and locations for future face-to-face meetings: August 19 – 20 at NEMA. November 7 – 8 following the WG-06 meeting. 5.
