How to Apply:
 Applicants may complete and submit the application online (https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=neu-grad), or
mail the attached forms once they are completed.
 All portions of the application must be received by:
o March 31 for priority admission
 Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all documents are received by the Graduate School. No action
will be taking until your admissions file is complete.
 The following documents are required (all in English):
1. Application Form – The entire application form must be completed and submitted. Per agreement
between the two Universities, the application fee of $50.00 is waived for the inaugural year applicants.
2. Personal Goal Statement – Your personal statement should briefly describe your background, interests,
and your reasons (expectations, goals, etc.) for wanting to pursue the NU-XMU Joint MSCCJ study in the
Graduate School of Criminal Justice. You may include any other information that you feel may be useful in
considering your applications for admission. We do ask, however, that you limit your personal statement
to 500 words or less.
3. Transcripts – Please submit official translated documentation of academic materials including diplomas
and mark sheets directly to the Graduate School of Criminal Justice in a sealed envelope. You must
submit official transcripts of your academic record from each of the colleges and universities you have
attended, regardless of whether or not you received a degree. A transcript request form is attached in case
you need to use it.
4. English Test Requirements – The ultimate purpose of this requirement is to assess your ability to
successfully complete courses conducted in English. You may submit one of the following test scores:
Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS),
Public English Test System (PETS), College English Test (CET), and Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
Scores are acceptable as long as tests were taken within the past five years from the date of application.
If you are currently a Masters student at School of Law, Xiamen University, you may use your graduate
school entrance exam English test scores. You are welcome to provide additional evidence of your
English capability. Please send an e-mail to Dr. Ni He (n.he@neu.edu) if you have more questions about
the English requirement.
5. Letters of Recommendation – Two letters of recommendation are required. Letters should be of an
academic and/or professional nature, and not from friends, relatives or neighbors. You should complete
the top portion of the recommendation form and forward one to each person whom you have asked to
write a recommendation. Please have letters forwarded to the Graduate School of Criminal Justice in a
sealed envelope.
